In the newest Control DLC you can visit a brand new floor of the Oldest House - the Investigations Sector. It is a fairly extensive level with many rooms suitable for exploration.
The exploration of the Investigations Sector is not 100 percent linear, and in addition, some of the main rooms contain secret chambers. Jesse can also find and take over new checkpoints along the way, among other things, for fast travel, to buy skills, or upgrade her equipment.
In addition, Alan Wake appears in the DLC. Also, there are numerous references to the Alan Wake video game. We deliberately don't post any spoilers about the main story of the expansion. The DLC may be of great interest to fans of the Alan Wake franchise.
It is worth noting that the references to the Alan Wake video game are not an entirely new feature of AWE expansion pack. Even in the basic version of Control, there were many documents and various features related to the writer's character and references to the town of Bright Falls where the action of Alan Wake the video game took place.
Jesse can use a new variation of the service weapon - Surge. This weapon works like a grenade launcher that fires sticky bombs. Fired explosive charges (you can fire up to three of them) can stick to opponents and elements of the environment. Then, you can detonate them manually.
Important note - Surge grenades can generate a huge explosion. They should always be detonated from a safe distance, otherwise Jesse could be seriously injured or even die on the spot.
In the AWE DLC you will have an opportunity to come across a new major boss and a new variation of "ordinary" opponents - the flying Hiss Rangers. The latter enemies will attack you from the air by using firearms (they have no offensive powers).
A rather significant new in-game mechanics introduced in the AWE expansion is the constant need of overcoming darkness, which may limit Jesse's ability to use her powers. The main character is able to capture hand-held lamps by using Telekinesis and use them to deal with the darkness. It is a similar concept known from the Alan Wake video game, in which the titular character used a flashlight to weaken his opponents and chase away the darkness.
AWE DLC offers an an arcade mode that can be activated by interacting with special slot machines. It allows you to engage in difficult battles with hordes of opponents, as well as repeat boss fights known from the primary campaign.
In addition, there are plenty of collectibles in the new AWE expansion. These include various types of documents and recordings that can further deepen your knowledge of the game world.
You can also discover new Hidden Locations. As in the basic version of the game, discovering each secret location is rewarded with 1 development point.
In the DLC, you can undertake new side missions. These include getting rid of the Hiss from newly explored locations.
The Alternated World Events expansion set also offers 11 new trophies to unlock - 2 silver and 9 bronze.
