Missions in Age of Wonders Planetfall Age of Wonders Planetfall guide, tips

Last update: 16 August 2019

In any strategy game, whether it is a turn-based or played in real time, the player must perform a list of goals to complete a stage. Age of Wonders: Planetfall is the same. However, this works little differently here - the missions are divided into different groups, and the goals that have to be performed during one stage can be several dozens. In this chapter, you will learn the mechanics of the missions, as well as tips for completing them.

You can open the missions window by clicking on the icon located in the upper left corner of the screen - the icon resembling a cup. After opening the window, you will see all the missions that the player has started. They are divided into several groups - the most important are those that are directly related to the story campaign (Campaign Path), the completion of which is required to pass a certain stage. There are also other mission groups related to specific actions - maintaining good diplomatic relations (Unity), achieving specific military goals (Military) or the development of colonies (Development).

Missions outside these main ones aren't required to complete a given stage, but there are several reasons why they should be done. You can perform them when the opportunity arises - in most cases, they are limited to constructing a building or eliminating specific opponents. As you can see, these are actions which you will do at some point, sooner or later. Moreover - and most importantly - they give tangible benefits - they offer additional military units, free construction in the selected colony or a large amount of resources.

How to find and complete missions?

In most cases, once you discover where you can activate a mission (e.g. recently discovered faction), the screen will automatically display relevant information and ask you if you accept the mission. On this screen, you can also view the rewards you will receive for completing it - sometimes, you can also check the penalties that await you after failing that mission.

After you accept the mission, you will see places on the world map where you can complete it. They will be marked with a yellow cup icon on the mini-map, and on the map itself, they will have a yellow glow. Depending on the mission, they will point different places - the location of the enemy you have to defeat, places to visit or an item to collect. By hovering over this type of place with the mouse, you can see what mission is associated with it. When you manage to fulfill all the goals of this mission, it will be automatically completed - you will not need to "carry back" the mission to the place from which it was taken.

Tips

Below you can find a few tips related to completing missions, namely:

  1. Completing a mission is a great way to get additional items for your heroes. However, if you don't need a specific item (e.g. weapons that none of your heroes can use), you can choose resources or modifications instead of a weapon.
  2. The main missions are the most important, but you shouldn't underestimate those of the other groups. Performing them gives tangible advantages - additional units, buildings, resources - and, in most cases, their objective is limited to eliminating several enemies.
  3. Some missions have a time limit. Keep this in mind, because when the time is out, the mission will end in failure. You won't get the reward and can suffer from consequences, e.g. the deterioration of relations with this faction.
  4. Completing missions for NPC factions is the only way to start any communication with them. NPC factions - described in more detail in a separate chapter - require you to complete a simple mission first. When it is done, it will be possible to further improve relations with this NPC faction.
