Being a mage in Tyranny isn't easy. What' interesting, everyone has magical abilities so even a classical warrior can learn something. However, the amount of spells they can use is limited by their Lore or, optionally, Talents. Aside from specialized mages who use a magic wand and have special Talents, by creating the so-called Sigils, you can decide what spells your companions have to learn. Not all spells have to be offensive or active-they can boost an attack with an element as a passive element.

It's worth it to start creating spells right from the beginning of the game and collect all Sigils that you come across. You can find them while exploring, buy them from some merchants, and also read them from walls if you have Lantry in your party (he has the Voices of Ages Talent). The said hero often has to have high Lore attribute to use this ability.

To learn a Sigil from a scroll, you just have to select it and click the "LEARN" button. Sigils often require having high Lore attribute to be learnt-luckily, they are created for the entire team so it's enough if one companion meets the requirement. Lore also determines how strong a spell can a given character learn. The most important thing is that you don't lose Sigils when creating spells, so you can mix them freely and assign them even to all companions.

To create a Sigil, enter Spell Creation [P] menu. First, you have to select the so-called Core which is the base of every spell and determines its magic type-Vigor (healing), Force (pushing), elemental, and so on. The second component is practically the most important-the Expression. It determines the actual attack strength and its form (for example, targeting a single enemy, creating an aura, or enchanting a weapon) and has the biggest influence on the amount of Lore required to learn the spell. After selecting the two, you will see the created spell's preview that shows its properties, strength, distance, and so on. If you like it, you can assign the new spell to your companions by putting it in the available slots. If a character's Lore is great, you can strengthen your spells with modificators that are called Accents. They modify a spell's parameters only slightly but you can use more than one at a time.
