If you want Winds to use magic in battles, Winds of Magic and their level are the key factors in whether a mage will be able to cast his spells. Without Winds of Magic, such a character will be useless.

What are Winds of Magic?

Winds of Magic are simply mana. The difference is that in Warhammer, its amount is shared by all the mages within an army. This is why it is not too good an idea to put too many mages into a single army - supplies of Winds of Magic will quickly deplete. Each spell uses up points of Winds of Magic and the most powerful ones will significantly deplete their pool during the battle.

You can look up the state of Winds of Magic during the campaign by rolling the mouse over the area where you are going to fight a battle. The window that pops up will provide you with such information. As is easy to figure out - the richer the deposit of Winds of Magic, the more points you can use up in the battle.

The overall state of Winds of Magic points over the entire map can be looked up by zooming out and selecting an appropriate option in the list on the right. Colors that appear on the map represent the supply of Winds of Magic in each of the regions.

Deposit of Winds of Magic fluctuates in individual regions. This is why, it is a good idea to find out its level before any battle. If Winds of Magic are low and there are mages in your army, sometimes it is better to miss the battle in that area. Of course, this works both ways. While fighting in an area with weak Winds of magic, the options of your enemies will also be limited.

Pool of Winds of Magic during battle

In the battle, there are two values that inform you of the state of Winds of Magic - the number of points available at any given moment and their supply. Both of these are displayed in the bottom-right corner of the screen. In the spherical object, the number of current points is provided, whereas on the bar next to it, there are supply and how quickly they are transferred to your current pool of points.

Each spell takes up a specific amount of Winds of Magic and, after you use it up, you will have to wait for a moment to use something else. When the reserve bar drops to zero, your mage will become useless - although he still will be able to use abilities that do not require Winds of Magic.

The following factors affect supply of Winds of Magic:

  1. State of Winds of Magic on the campaign map
  2. Items owned by Lords and Heroes
  3. Abilities of Lords and Heroes

You can increase supply by buying active abilities for a character, as well as thanks to items they own. Using such ability increases number of points of Winds of Magic by a certain number.
