Total War Warhammer 3: Sieges Total War Warhammer 3 guide, walkthrough

In this guide page you will learn about the siege mechanics in Total War Warhammer 3

Last update: 07 April 2022

The following page of the guide will introduce you to the mechanics of sieges in Total War Warhammer 3.

Preparing for siege

Attacking settlements is never easy - Total War Warhammer 3: Sieges - Military - Total War Warhammer 3 Guide

Attacking settlements is never easy. You can starve the defenders to death, but it always takes a long time, and the game goes on. The case above will take 8 turns, which you can see in the upper left corner of the siege tab, next to the amount of Defense Supplies that the defenders have.

Usually, storm is the best solution. If you're about to attack a settlement without walls, you can do so right away. This will start a battle. However, if the settlement is walled off, then you must first construct siege equipment (towers and battering rams - which takes time) or have your own artillery in the army (or some other large units).

For the attacking side, the fight looks more or less like a standard battle, with the difference that the enemy is heavily entrenched and has the support of barricades and shooter towers. You'll also face an additional difficulty - narrow streets.

If the enemy has the upper hand, but you still want to try to conquer the settlement, then siege it, but don't storm yet. There is a great chance that the enemy will attack you, and then the battle will take place in the open field. It will give you a huge advantage.

The situation changes if you are on defence. In such case, you will get a number of options during the battle itself.

Defense supplies

Settlement defenders get an additional "resource" - Defense Supplies - Total War Warhammer 3: Sieges - Military - Total War Warhammer 3 Guide

Settlement defenders get an additional "resource" - Defense Supplies. You'll have some of them at the start of the battle. The amount depends largely on how long the siege lasts (there resource grows with each turn), and on the buildings you have built. In addition, you also get it passively during the battle for controlling the Defender's strategic points. You can check its amount at the top of the screen.

This resource is used to build fortifications - you can use it to build barricades and defense towers.

Fortifications

Fortifications can only be placed in designated places - Total War Warhammer 3: Sieges - Military - Total War Warhammer 3 Guide

Fortifications can only be placed in designated places. You will recognize them by the green hammer. The place for towers and barricades is also predefined, you can't move them around however you like. Each fortification has 4 levels.

The best time to build is the preparation phase before the battle. The fortifications take no time to build at all then. Unfortunately, during the fight you have to wait for the structure to be built.

Defender's strategic points

There are several defender strategic points throughout the settlement. As mentioned before, they give you crucial defense supplies. However, they are also tied to fortifications. If the enemy takes over such a point, then all defense structures in its vicinity will disappear and the opponent will move closer to victory. However, it is not worth defending them all if your military power is much smaller. It is much better to entrench in a point that is easy to defend and wait for the enemy.
