The following page contains tips on recruiting and replenishing losses in Total War Warhammer 3.

Army recruitment

To create an army, the first thing you need to do is recruit a lord to lead it.

To do it, select any settlement and click the button marked in the screen above - Total War Warhammer 3: Army - Recruitment and replenishment - Military - Total War Warhammer 3 Guide

To do it, select any settlement and click the button marked in the screen above. This will open the lord selection screen.

At the very top of the tab, you can choose the type of lord who will lead your army - Total War Warhammer 3: Army - Recruitment and replenishment - Military - Total War Warhammer 3 Guide

At the very top of the tab, you can choose the type of lord who will lead your army. As you play and develop new technologies/construct buildings, the you may unlock new types of commanders.

If you choose a lord who uses magic, you can usually choose his "element" as well. The menu dedicated to it is on the left side of the tab. This will affect his spells.

When choosing a leader, you should also pay attention to the traits he starts the game with (they are listed under the name). They will give him some starting bonuses which may be important to you.

Each lord increases the army maintenance costs by 1%. While this is not a major problem at the beginning, it can be a serious expense in the later stages of the game. Remember about it.

Unit replenishment (attrition)

During the game, your units will often be injured. This can happen in battle or as a result of their attrition.

Most often it will happen due to hostile corruption or disease - Total War Warhammer 3: Army - Recruitment and replenishment - Military - Total War Warhammer 3 Guide

Most often it will happen due to hostile corruption or disease. You will recognize it by the skulls above the army and its route. This will gradually weaken your units. Of course, the health of the army can also drop after the battle.

In such a situation, it is best to return to a friendly area. However, even on "optimal" allied ground (without corruption) your units will regenerate slowly. It is much better to hide them in a settlement or use the Encamp mode, which allows you to regenerate even in unfavorable conditions.

Recruiting new units

To recruit more soldiers, you first need to choose an army (we've described how to recruit it in another section on this page). Then you should pay attention to the two buttons.

  1. Your units.
If you want to recruit units of your race, you have to press the button marked on the top - Total War Warhammer 3: Army - Recruitment and replenishment - Military - Total War Warhammer 3 Guide

If you want to recruit units of your race, you have to press the button marked on the top. This will open two recruitment tabs: global and local.

The global tab allows you to recruit troops from all over the country. This means that you have access to different types of units, even those that are not in the province you are currently in. However, it comes at the cost of longer and more expensive recruitment.

Local recruitment is cheaper and faster. Unfortunately, you can only recruit troops whose buildings you have built in the province where the army is stationed. Therefore, it is best to have dedicated areas with advanced military structures that will be relatively close to the war zone.

The number of units you can recruit at a time is limited - Total War Warhammer 3: Army - Recruitment and replenishment - Military - Total War Warhammer 3 Guide

The number of units you can recruit at a time is limited. This is represented by small squares under the word "Globally" and the name of the province. All the extra units, which in this case would be the fourth and third respectively, would start their recruitment only when a slot becomes available.

It is worth using both types of conscription when you need to recruit an army as soon as possible. This significantly shortens the recruitment time. In addition, certain technologies and lords' skills allow you to increase the maximum number of units recruited at the same time.

Recruiting each unit takes a certain amount of time. You can see the number of turns needed for recruitment above the squad portrait (minimum 1).

In addition, under each unit there is the amount of money that you have to pay to add them to your army. However, the number below is much more important - it represents the amount you have to pay each turn to maintain your squad. In the long run, this is a much more important value and you should plan your budget accordingly.

  1. Allied troops

In Total War Warhammer 3 you cal also recruit allied units. To do so, you need an Outpost (described on the Diplomacy page). If you already have an ally and have constructed this building there, your units will gain access to another recruitment button.

In order to recruit ally units, press the button marked above - Total War Warhammer 3: Army - Recruitment and replenishment - Military - Total War Warhammer 3 Guide

In order to recruit ally units, press the button marked above. This will allow you to recruit units that are native for another faction (not all of them, of course, only selected ones). It costs Allegiance, which you can learn more about on the separate Diplomacy page.

On the above Recruitment tab, you can select the nations whose troops are available to you (left corner). However, keep in mind that there is a maximum number of troops that you can recruit in this way (the number under the unit portraits).
