How to avoid drones and helicopters in Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Breakpoint? Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Breakpoint guide, tips

Last update: 17 October 2019

One of the novelties introduced in Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Breakpoint that was absent in Wildlands is the need to avoid contact with hostile helicopters and drones patrolling the island. If they detect you, your character will be chased by enemies - read this chapter to learn how to avoid these situations.

To avoid contact, hide in low grass or use camouflage.

In addition to numerous enemy bases and patrols, you will encounter an enemy helicopter or, worse, an Azrael drone. In both cases, if the character is caught in an open area, you will get detected. A helicopter will "simply" shoot at your position or attract nearby hostile units. In the case of a drone, the situation is worse - the mini-map will interfere (you won't see anything on it), and your character will be attacked by Wolves squad, an elite enemy type. Contact with these units can quickly lead to your death - these enemies deal a lot of damage and are very resistant.

In extreme cases, you can hide behind a terrain cover like a tree or a stone.

Use camouflage to avoid these units. You can crouch in high bushes or lie down in the shorter ones - in both cases, the screen gets slightly darker meaning that the character is hidden. You can also lie down on muddy or snow-covered terrain and then press the on-screen button to apply camouflage. In a critical situation - when there are no bushes, mud or snow nearby - you can hide behind an element of the environment like a tree, a stone or a car. Remember that the enemy can still see you.

Note - to reduce the chance of detection, equip items increasing Stealth. The skill tree also has abilities increasing this stat. Thanks to this attribute, you will increase your stealth effectiveness - enemies will have great problems with noticing you and they will need more time to detect your character.

What to do when the enemy detects you?

If you fail to hide and the enemy manages to track your position, the actions taken depend on who found you. It looks like this:

  1. If you were detected by a helicopter, the easiest way is to use a rocket launcher (the way to unlock it is described in "How do I unlock a rocket launcher?" section) to shoot it down. This solution makes a lot of noise, but you will get rid of the aircraft. Then, simply hide in the bushes or use camouflage and wait until the pursue is over. If you don't have a rocket launcher, try to kill the helicopter pilot to make the aircraft crash.
  2. If you were detected by an Azrael drone, prepare to face a Wolves squad. Go to a place where you can find covers - either buildings or elements of the environment - and wait for the enemies. When they are dead, quickly leave the battlefield and hide in the vegetation, or use camouflage to lose the chase.
