Passages between the neighboring districts not always are that obvious

Garrett visits the City for the first time after the completion of the first chapter of the game (reach the clock tower). From now on, the main character will be returning to the City after the completion of each individual main chapter, as well as after each major side mission (i.e. the ones received from Ector and Vittori). Furthermore, the game allows you to return to the city still while on a mission. I recommend against doing that, though, because all of your current progress, in such a situation, will be lost. You can make an exception in a situation, in which this is a side mission and you have noticed that you cannot complete it in 100% because there is something missing in your equipment (e.g. the razor).

The City consists of two large parts - the Stonemarket and the South Quarter. Each one of these areas consists of many smaller areas and their names are displayed on the map of the area, as well as in the bottom left corner of the screen. Your character can freely roam around the City (note: some of the smaller districts are unlocked only later throughout the campaign) without the necessity to follow one pre-determined path. Unfortunately, not always is it that easy to travel between the neighboring locations, nor is it pleasurable. Some of the districts are connected with a tunnel that is easy to locate, or with a longer alleyway, but there also are situations in which you need to find a transit point on your own and, these may be, e.g. windows that you need to force open , or a place where Garrett needs to squeeze through between crates. The whereabouts of such transit points have been given further in this chapter and they should be helpful in moving around the city without any problems

The point of the visits to the city is not only to talk to NPCs and push the storyline forward. Garret may perform a number of other activities, i.e.

  • Explore the city and the insides of the select buildings, in search of loot, Collectibles and documents.
  • Take up side missions (more about this further in this chapter)
  • Meet merchants in order to replenish supplies and buy new equipment elements (more about this further in this chapter)
  • Use replay points for individual missions that you have already completed
  • Eavesdrop on the conversations between NPCs - they concern loot hidden nearby
