Meeting the orphans
There is only one main quest on the fog. Go to the south of the location, to the swamps. You will find a shrine (M9,16) which starts the so called "Trail of Treats". Follow the path to the Gran hut (M9,17). She won't be eager to help you, but the kids will. Ask them to lure the Gran from the house so that you will be able to talk with one of the kids in the hut. Talk with any kid. You have two options to convince them to help you. You can either give them a fruit or play hide and seek with them. If you choose the latter, you will find the kids in four places:
- In the hut on the western side,
- Behind bushes in the corner of Gran's hut,
- Behind a large building, in a haystack,
- Again behind the large building in the corner, in bushes.
Talk with the kid in the hut, he will tell you about Johny. No go northeast. You will meet two drowners (level 6) and a water hag (level 5) on your way. Start looking for trails with witcher senses. You will reach a small cavern - summon Johny from it.
Follow him after a short conversation. You will have some drowners to kill on the way. The boy will ask you to bring him a bottle from a nest on a ledge. Unless you have done it before - then he will reclaim his voice and will show you the further road. You will return to the gran, she will help you meet the witches. They will send you to the nearby Donwarren to talk with Ealdorman.
Spirit inside the tree
He will want you to kill a ghost living inside the tree. It is done in the side quest The Whispering Hillock (M9,8). If you completed it already, go back from the Ealdorman to witches. Otherwise, kill the werewolf (level 8) before the cave and then kill the heart of the tree or help the ghost reclaim his freedom. If you want to destroy him, constantly attack his "heart" - when the branches will uncover themselves, use Igni sign. In the meantime watch out for Endregas attacking you. If you help the ghost, after collecting all items needed to the ritual you can outsmart him in the final moments and kill him without a fight or actually help him. No matter the choice you made (killing or releasing the ghost) it won't affect the rest of your task.
Leave the cave, you will find the Ealdorman here who will give you the reward. Go back to the hut on the swamps.
Witches will tell you about Ciri - after a cutscene you will play as the girl and will have to run away from the swamps. Simply run, you don't have to fight constantly respawning monsters. After you return to the conversation, no matter what answers you choose you will end with the same sentence. The elder woman appears to be the wife of the Bloody Baron - Anna. Tell him about it in order to continue the Family Matters quest.
Important - if you go to Baron immediately with information about Anna and won't look for his daughter in Oxenfurt, you will lose the chance to continue this quest.
