This page of the guide to The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt includes a walkthrough of all side quests related to White Orchard. In the walkthrough, we inform, among others, about how to find an arsonist in White Orchard, where there is a missing brother on the battlefield, how to help a woman with a frying pan, where to find a box in the marshes, and how to help the herbalist Tomira.
In order to start this quest, find the blacksmith Willis (M1,2) in White Orchard Village. Talk to him and you will learn that this place has been sabotaged. Willis will ask you to find the firestarter. Activate Witcher Senses and start following the red footprints near the blacksmith house. The trail will lead you to Woesong Bridge in the village. Look closely at them and search for another trail near the boat. After watching them, get through the bridge and find shoes lying on the sand. The trail will lead to one of the cabins in the village (M1,3). Examine the last footprint, enter the cabin and find Napp hiding in the back. Watch his wound and start talking.
You can make two choices - release Napp or get him captured. If you choose the first option, return to Willis and tell him you haven't found the firestarter. If you want to capture Napp, you can defeat him in fist fight or use Axii sign to take control over him and make him go with you to blacksmith house. In both cases Napp will be given to Nilfgaardians. For this quest you receive experience (75 points + 25 for using Axii sign) and 20 crowns (received from Napp or Willis). If you have captured the firestarter, Willis will lower prices of his merchandise and services.
Missing in Action
You will learn about this quest by interacting with one of the notice boards in White Orchard. Go to the Ransacked Village and meet with Dune Vildenvert (M1,4). Dune will ask Geralt for help in searching for his brother Bastien who participated in a recent battle. Agree to help him and reach the ground where the battle took place. Explore the territory and be ready to deal with a small groups of ghouls. Look around for the fallen warriors near whom you can find a blue shield with three white flowers painted on them.
Sooner or later you will find a male corpse. After examining it, the dog will get a trail. Follow him to the forest (witcher senses will be helpful). The dog will lead you and Dune to a small cabin in which you will find wounded Bastien and a nilfgaardian deserter Rhosyn. After hearing the conversation, you have two options - you can suggest to leave Rhosyn in that place or escort him to the brother's home as a thanks for saving the life of Bastien. You will receive experience for this quest (25 points).
A Frying Pan, Spick and Span
In order to start this quest, reach the fishing hut northwest from White Orchard Village (M1,13) and talk to the Old woman standing in front of it. After hearing her out, pick the Aard sign and use it to destroy the closed door. Enter inside and activate witcher senses. Examine the corpse found under the window and then find the silver monocle lying on the ground.
Walk to the kitchen and pick burned papers from the stove. Open the inventory and try to read the message written on the papers. Finally pick the frying pan from the kitchen table. You can return to the old woman now. Give her the frying pan (10 experience point) and you will receive food in return.
This task can be activated by meeting with the Merchant sitting on the road South of Nilfgaardian Camp (M1,14). He will ask Geralt to find a small box. Activate witcher senses and go northwest. Watch out for drowners. Examine the trail of cart and go to the swamps. Find the attacked cart and examine the horse with an arrow in his body. There are corpses of men at one tree to examine as well. Finally find the locked strongbox.
Return to the merchant. This quest has three main endings:
- First option is ignoring attack trails and giving cargo to the man. You will receive 25 experience points and 20 crowns.
- Second option is accusing the talker of lying. He will start running away after that. Quickly jump on the horse and follow him. If you're fast enough, you can reach the merchant and by attacking throw him off the horse. If you won't be fast enough, he will reach a bandit camp. In that case, you will have to defeat not only him, but a group of bandits as well (3-4 level - watch out for archers!). In both cases you can act in three ways - give the merchant in the Nilfgaardian hands (10 xp, 30 crowns), release him (10 xp, 50 crowns) or let him leave in exchange for his herbals (10 xp, 50 crowns, 5 celandines).
- Third option is similar to the second one. After the chase starts, you can kill the merchant with your strong attacks without giving him a chance for surrender. You will receive experience and celandines if you examine the body of merchant.
On Death's Bed
This task can be unlocked by meeting with herbalist Tomira in her hut east from Sawmill (M1,16). It is best to start the quest while completing the main quest Beast of White Orchard.
During the conversation you will learn about Lena who received serious injuries during griffin attack. You can offer making a mixture that will reduce the suffering of dying woman. This mixture is Swallow. Activate alchemy window and find the proper potion (it is shown on the picture above). To brew the mixture, you will need some ingredients - 1 dwarven spirit, 5 celandines and 1 drowner brain. First two ingredients can be found while exploring the game world or you can buy them from local merchants. Drowner brain can be obtained by defeating one of the water monsters and looting his body.
After collecting all the ingredients, brew the potion and return with it to Tomira. You will receive 350 experience points, 50 crowns, 2 venom extracts, manuscript page - Cursed Oil, torn-out page - Noonwraith Decoction and a book "Of Sweat and Blood". After reading the latter, you will learn about new monster types.
