Dialogues

You will spend most of the game time on talking to other people. In the vast majority of cases you will need to choose any of the answers before the time runs out (although you can simply pause the game and choose without having to hurry). If the time runs out, the "silence" option is selected automatically. From time to time there are situations when there is no time limit. The game will not continue until you select one of the responses.

You can choose to be silent yourself - it's as equally right choice as any other, and sometimes it is the best one, tough rarely (it does not matter whether you are waiting till the time runs out or choose the "..." option). If you do not want to remain silent, choose one of the other answers. In most cases, it does not matter what you choose - at the most, the character you are talking to will give you a different answer, but it will not affect his or her future behavior.

However, there are a lot of options that have such an impact - and these are the ones that have been thoroughly presented in the guide by means of tables or marked red in the text. After selecting such a response the game will notify you about it (if you enabled the appropriate option in the game settings, the default notifications are on). There are also responses after which you will not see any notification. Nevertheless, they will affect what a character will say or do later in the game.

The vast majority of the differences lies exactly in what the characters say to you, and more specifically - in what way. Building relationships with characters is an extremely important part of the game. Therefore, you should decide on whose side you want to stand (and you will need to do it quite often) and remain consistent.

There are situations in which companions are in different places. You can walk up to any of them and talk to him/her, but your main task will be to solve a puzzle. In such cases you do not have a number of several possible answers to choose from but conversation topics you can choose in any order. You will know that you are dealing with such a situation if the last option would be ending the conversation, namely the lines "Exit".

Sometimes you will have to - speaking quite literally - "use an item on a person". There are two possibilities. You can either start a conversation and choose the right topic, or you can select an appropriate icon and point the character.

Exploring, looking at items and interacting with them

After conversations, the second most important aspect of the game is exploring, looking at items and interacting with them. It is worth mentioning at this point that the controls information can be found in the setup menu (Controls).

Let us start with moving in general. The only thing that is worth noting is that sometimes when you are in a certain camera shot you are not able to perform certain actions. Only after you go to one of the "ends of the screen" - namely, to the left, right, to the background or foreground will the view change. Keep that in mind as you explore the surroundings. If the scene didn't change it simply means that there is an "invisible wall" and you cannot go further. Sometimes the scene will change in such a way as to help you notice and look at an important item.

Looking at items is sometimes necessary to "push" the plot/events forward, for example, you need to first look at a certain item in order to be able to use it later. Such situations have been thoroughly presented in the guide. However, most of the time looking at items is optional, though it may frequently give some hints on a puzzle or information about the plot. Looking at items corresponds to the "eye" icon.

Interacting with items is much more important. You can pick items up or try to do something with those you cannot pick up (for example, opening the door). All that corresponds to the "hand" icon. In addition, you can use some items on/with the other. To do so, select another icon that corresponds to the particular item.

To talk to a character, point at him/her, choose the balloon icon, and then confirm it by pressing the appropriate button. Very frequently a conversation with a particular character is necessary to push the plot forward.

Panic Events

These are the moments in the game where you can die. If it does come to that, you will start the game with a save you made earlier. The beginning of a PE has been marked with the line [PANIC EVENT - START], and its end - [PANIC EVENT - END]. During the panic event action you need to perform some actions. It can be:

  • pressing the button shown on the screen as quickly as possible;
  • pressing the button shown on the screen as quickly as possible and then pressing the next one once;
  • hitting or shooting - a red crosshair will appear;
  • any other form of interaction, including both hitting/punching and shooting, but not only - for example, taking the item form someone else's hands, closing the door, etc.;
  • moving in the right direction (usually moving backwards/pulling back).

Tough decisions

There are five tough decisions to take in each episode. Some have an impact on the events that follow, that is why, it is worth to think twice before taking them. Most of the time you also need to do it very quickly.

Remember that sometimes your decision will not change certain events - a character that is destined to die, will die anyway. Still, you can try to save him/her or not, or save someone else and this will have an impact on other characters' behavior and attitude towards you.

Tough choices have been presented in the guide with the lines [TOUGH DECISION]. At the end of each episode of your decisions will be recapitulated. You will be able to see how they compare to the choices of other players.

It should also be added that, unlike in most games, there are no "good" and "bad" choices. It rather depends on the kind of relationship you want to have with other characters. Having a good relationship with one character often means sacrificing the relationship with the other character. You should know that it is impossible to live in harmony with everyone in the game.
