General tips | Basic information The Flame in the Flood Guide

Last update: 11 May 2016

1. Adjust the equipment according to your needs - Scout should only carry the items and resources that are of immediate necessity, or will be used in the nearest future. Aesop should carry more vital resources - if you die (on the normal difficulty) your best friend will not lose them. The items for upgrading the raft (that are otherwise of no use to Scout) need to stay on the raft - you cannot access them until you're in the vicinity.

2. Zoom out while sailing - makes it easier to spot the islands worth visiting, thus allowing you to plan ahead, and choose suitable tactics. Remember that if you choose to skip a location, you can't go back (sailing upstream is impossible).

3. Always drive off the crows - they alarm enemies such as wolves, and boars.

4. Use a torch to scare off the wolves, and boars - be careful though because snakes are attracted by its warmth.

5. When possible, sleep in a house or a bus - contrary to camp fires, the houses and buses don't have to be lit up, and don't fade. They can also be used for shelter.

6. Keep your eyes peeled for resources while rafting - you can acquire many resources without even leaving the raft - use the interact button to collect resources from shopping carts scattered on small islands.

7. Danger doesn't sleep - if you decide to dock anywhere during the night, take into account the increased activity and numbers of enemies.

8. Rain is a foe - not only does it soak up Scout's clothes, making her cold - it will also extinguish the fire, so try to find a shelter if it looks like it's going to rain.

9. You acquire new schemes by collecting resources - if you pick up any kind of resource needed for crafting an item, a scheme or a recipe for that item will be added to your inventory automatically.

10. Don't hold onto your food for too long - most of the consumables will deteriorate after a couple of days.
