Different varieties of Scourge Dredges can summon reinforcements

Opponents in The Banner Saga 2 can be divided into three separate groups. The first one is Dredge and they come in different varieties. While fighting them, it is important to target their armors in the first place, especially that they often start with 10 points. Scourge Dredges deserve a separate mention, because they are capable of summoning reinforcements (one unit that stands on the side and waves his weapon). If you do not have a clear-cut advantage over the enemy units, it is better to prevent such things from happening. The only exception is a situation in which enemy forces are at a disadvantage, because a new Dredge appearing around is an opportunity to obtain more renown.

When it comes to ranged units (usually, these are stone-hurling dredges), it is best to cut short the distance between you and them as quickly as possible. This is so, because they are completely defenseless in melee. Also, note that these monsters often set traps on the ground. If only you have such opportunity, move your units away from them, because it explodes after several turns and damages health AND armor of units within range. Often, it is a good idea to combine offense with defense, i.e. approach the enemy up to a distance at which you will not be attacked in the first turn by ranged units.

Another group of opponents are various bandits and mostly they pose less threat than Dredges. In general, the division here is similar to that in your party. Therefore, you can encounter warriors, shielded fighters, spearmen and archers. Just like in the case of Dredges, it is better to get the archers right at the very beginning of the battle.

All in all, there only are two elite varieties of bandits. The first one are Thrashers, i.e. opponents with an identical set of special abilities as Hogun and Mogun. If you allow them to attack you, they will quickly drain your characters for health and armor. Another noteworthy type of bandits are Backbiters that specialize in charges. They can attack several party members at a time and they can deal lots of damage to them.

The third group of opponents are unique opponents, i.e. ones that appear very rarely. In one battle, you may have to face a group of giants and, in such situations, it I a good idea to remember about all the tactics that you have been using earlier. Apart from that, it is better to eliminate giants one-by one and keep in mind that they have lots of strength and armor.
