What is a Moonchest?

Moonchests are a great source of income: they contain large amounts of materials, food and gold. You can open them from the beginning of the game.

Moonchest are chests that can be found in both the Wasteland and Swamp. They are always located on a kind of an "altar" composed of stairs, a chest at the top and a hearth at the bottom. To open them, you need to collect three Moonstones. Chests reset every Corruption Storm. They contain valuable items and are a good source of gold. Both chests contain similar things.

Note - In the Wasteland, Moonstones and Moonchests can be found in the north-east, in the area behind the maze/bridge. You sometimes won't find a Moonstone or a Moonchest here until you unlock this area by completing the maze.

How to collect Moonstones?

Moonstones are the key to opening Moonchests. You need three stones to open the chest by holding down the action button. The stones are visible in your inventory. You can steal them from your enemies or collect them after killing them.

In Wasteland, the stones are in 3 locations:

  1. One of the stones is owned by a neutral monster, often a chicken, but it may also be a Faun.
  2. The second stone is in the Corrupted zone - one of the enemies has it (they are either visible, or hidden in one of the bubbles).

  1. The last Moonstone is always in a chest protected by Looming Vines. They are afraid of the light, so approach the chest with a lit torch.

What else you should know about Moonstones:

  1. After leaving the Corrupted zones, they degrade quickly - you cannot take them outside of the Wasteland / Swamps,
  2. You can travel with them between these locations - then you will keep them intact.
  3. Moonstones used in other places (between locations, for a closed door in the Wasteland maze) are always exactly the same stones. No matter where you collect them, you can use them anywhere they're needed.

These stones have no other use and cannot be crafted.

First of all, Moonchests contain gold. Additionally, you'll almost always find a Create Chicken potion, a meal and weapons, as well as crafting items and materials (sometimes also rare) in various amounts. Are these chests worth opening, then? Definitely yes. If you learn exactly where to find the Moonstones, a quick journey for the loot inside the chest won't be a problem for you.
