Green bar

In The Serpent Rogue, it's a good idea to keep your food bar up - The Serpent Rogue: Hunger bar and food - Basics - The Serpent Rogue Guide

In The Serpent Rogue, it's a good idea to keep your food bar up. It's the green bar below your health in the upper left corner. It also acts as your stamina bar: it decreases over time, is used while attacking and blocking, and when it's too low, it limits your ability to attack, block and sprint. The bar also drops when you sleep and rest on the bench which regenerates your health. It's also what enables you to recover health passively, which is why skeletons don't have this ability (since they don't have a hunger bar). Being hungry/lacking food won't result in death.

How to restore hunger?

To restore hunger, you need to eat a dish - The Serpent Rogue: Hunger bar and food - Basics - The Serpent Rogue Guide

To restore hunger, you need to eat a dish. All items and potions with the Food property in their description are classified as dishes, and the preceding number shows how many units they restore. Pressing C opens the character page, which displays how many hunger units your character has in their current form. Initially, you'll have the chance to find various types of food while exploring, and later you'll be able to use ingredients to create dishes by cooking in the oven (one is in your starting hideout, the Abandoned House). You'll be able to cook meat and fish that would have poisoned you if eaten raw.

You'll eventually learn dish recipes that will fill the entire bar in one go, so it's worth collecting and stashing ingredients, even if you don't need them at the moment - The Serpent Rogue: Hunger bar and food - Basics - The Serpent Rogue Guide

You'll eventually learn dish recipes that will fill the entire bar in one go, so it's worth collecting and stashing ingredients, even if you don't need them at the moment. To unlock new dishes or discover recipes for specific dishes in the game world, you can experiment by combining two or three ingredients.

If you are experimenting with ingredients to discover new recipes, you won't have to test them beforehand. Each discovered recipe will be added to the list on the left.

Poison

Unless you have a Strong Stomach - as many animals do (transmutation) - eating raw meat or fish gives you the poison status effect - The Serpent Rogue: Hunger bar and food - Basics - The Serpent Rogue Guide

Unless you have a Strong Stomach - as many animals do (transmutation) - eating raw meat or fish gives you the poison status effect. As a result, you should never eat food that's unfit for consumption, as you will end up losing 5 Health Points.
