While staying on Unreliable, you can unlock The Cleaning Machine quest. It allows you to recruit a new member of the team - a robot named SAM. This page of the guide to The Outer Worlds has a walkthrough for this side quest.

Walkthrough
Unreliable
On board the Unreliable you will find some crew rooms. Next to them there is a small storehouse with a broken robot. Head to ADA and ask her about the abandoned robot. You'll be instructed to search for information at the former captain's terminal.
Go to the captain's quarters and interact with the terminal. After searching for SAM phrase you will find a few entries. One of them speaks of a delayed supply of an acid steeper. Your job is to get that part. To do so, you will have to go to Roseway.
Roseway
You will find the part you are looking for in the local warehouse. You have to defeat a group of marauders to get to it. When you get inside, you'll encounter a few more enemies. You will find the acid steeper in a large hall filled with shelves.
Once you have found the part you are looking for, you can return to the deck and install it in the robot. That's how you'll get a new companion.
