There is only one pond in the game where you can cast a fishing rod - in the north part of Mabe Village. Talk to the Fisherman standing by the pond and he will explain how to fish, which is:

  1. Press A to throw out your line. The longer you hold A, the further you will cast.
  2. Once the lure is in the water, it will begin to sink. Move the left thumbstick to attract fish.
  3. Tab A rapidly once the fish bites to reel it in.

Fishing tips

1 - Fishing in Links Awakening - Basics - Links Awakening Guide
  1. Stop reeling when the fish is struggling, or it will break the line. Wait until the fish has stopped struggling and start tapping A again.
  2. Cast the rod to the left of the fish, thanks to that, you will have more tries to lure it.
  3. Wiggle the lure when it's directly in front of the fish's face.
  4. If you don't like where the lure has ended up, reel it back in and try again. You will only be charged if you hooked something.
  5. Blooper pulls diagonally up and away from you, so wait for it to stop, before reeling in again.
  6. Cheep Cheep jumps out of the water, so wait until it starts to swim again, or the line will break.
