List of Trophies and Achievements in The Banner Saga 3 The Banner Saga 3 Guide and Walkthrough

Last update: 02 August 2018

This section lists all the achievements available in The Banner Saga 3. The Xbox One version has 49 achievements, the PC version has 50 (1 additional achievement that is unique to this version - The Saga Concludes) and the PS4 has 50 (one of them is a platinum trophy). The trophy list contains information about what needs to be done to unlock the trophies and tips on how to meet these requirements.

Valuable Note: Unlocking Achievements/Trophies in the game is additionally rewarded with points of fame/experience (Renown). These are not big prizes, (5 renown points per 1 achievement) but you can still slightly accelerate the development of the characters with them.

Banner Saga 3 Master

Type of trophy: platinum

How to unlock: You must earn all the other trophies.

Notes: This trophy is only available for PlayStation 4.

Type of trophy: brown

How to unlock: You must give your hero the title.

Notes: The Heroic Title option may become available when you advance the hero to a level that is high enough. Then, open the character tab and click on the newly available button at the top of the screen next to the hero information button, what is shown in picture 1. To get this trophy/achievement you can select any title (example is shown in picture 2) and unlock its first level. You do not need to develop this title to the maximum.

An Honored Guest

Type of trophy: brown - List of Trophies and Achievements in The Banner Saga 3 - Trophies and Achievements - The Banner Saga 3 Game Guide

Type of trophy: brown

How to unlock: You must talk to King Meinolf in Chapter 16.

Notes: The meeting with the king takes place at the end of this chapter. You don't have to try hard to get the audience.

Apostate

Type of trophy: brown - List of Trophies and Achievements in The Banner Saga 3 - Trophies and Achievements - The Banner Saga 3 Game Guide

Type of trophy: brown

How to unlock: You have to defeat three enemies with Apostate.

Notes: Apostate is a dredge travelling with a group led by Iver, Juno and Eyvind. You can put him into combat for the first time in Chapter 17 of the game. Use his skills to defeat any three enemies.

Bat Out of Hell

Type of trophy: silver - List of Trophies and Achievements in The Banner Saga 3 - Trophies and Achievements - The Banner Saga 3 Game Guide

Type of trophy: silver

How to unlock: You need to complete Chapter 21 by returning to Arberrang only once.

Commentary: The difficulty in getting this trophy depends on whether you have imported your saves from The Banner Saga 2 or not and how well you did in the previous campaigns. Importing a save from the second game where you had a lot of supplies, clansmen, fighters and Varl will help you unlock this achievement.

In the chapter 20 you will get the same screen as presented in the picture above. The game informs you for how long Arberrang can defend itself while Iver's caravan is moving towards The White Tower. Things that count:

  1. Walls standing - Each part of the walls that isn't destroyed will add 30 hours to the "counter". The condition of the walls depends on the previous events in Arberrang (the ones where you had to make a decision).
  2. Supplies saved - Each unit will add about an hour to the "counter".
  3. Varl saved - Every 4 Varl will add about an hour to the "counter".
  4. Fighters saved - Every 4 fighters will add about an hour to the "counter".
  5. Clansmen saved - Every 6 clansmen will add an hour to the "counter".

In our case we got 15 days of siege. This isn't enough time - you need at least 25 days.

That is not all - don't waste your time in the chapter 21. This means that you will have to make the right choices during your journey - check our walkthrough of the chapter 21.

On top of that, you also have to make the correct choices when you go back to Arberrang for the first time - make a decision regarding the funeral ceremony, decide what you want to do with food supplies, and survive the battle that takes place on the town's walls (for that you will get additional 72 hours added to the "counter"). Iver needs enough days to reach The White Tower - triggering the second visit in Arberrang means that you didn't have enough days.

Type of trophy: brown - List of Trophies and Achievements in The Banner Saga 3 - Trophies and Achievements - The Banner Saga 3 Game Guide

Type of trophy: brown

How to unlock: You must ensure that Gudmundr and Petrus fight shoulder to shoulder at least five times.

Notes: As you play Chapter 16 of the game, you will have the opportunity to help Captain Petrus defeat a group of opponents, as shown in the picture 1. Join Petrus and fight with him. During the battle, the heroes will automatically be supported by Gudmund. After winning the battle, you will talk to him. Invite Gudmundr to join the team (choose the second option - check picture 2). You can select these characters in the next battles.

Bulwark

Type of trophy: brown

How to unlock: You have to defeat three enemies with a Bulwark.

Commentary: Bastion is one of the playable Dredges. Add him to your party and defeat three enemies with this character.

Came a Long Way

Type of trophy: silver - List of Trophies and Achievements in The Banner Saga 3 - Trophies and Achievements - The Banner Saga 3 Game Guide

Type of trophy: silver

How to unlock: You must complete Chapter 20 at the head of at least 300 clan members.

Commentary: This achievement relies heavily on your decisions from the previous chapters and on how many clansmen you got by importing saves from The Banner Saga 2.

The event presented in the picture above should trigger when you are on your way to the great gate. The caravan can be stopped by a woman who accuses you of murdering the Dredges. Your choice determines how many new people can join your caravan. Choose the second option (the one highlighted in the picture above) and you will get 112 clansmen.

Castaway

3 - List of Trophies and Achievements in The Banner Saga 3 - Trophies and Achievements - The Banner Saga 3 Game Guide
Type of trophy: brown - List of Trophies and Achievements in The Banner Saga 3 - Trophies and Achievements - The Banner Saga 3 Game Guide

Type of trophy: brown

How to unlock: You have to defeat three enemies as Castaway.

Notes: Castaway is a silent dredge-thrower that you can join during Chapter 19, where you can follow the group led by Iver, Juno and Eyvind. Opportunity comes when you reach the divine stone of Denglr and meet Hilde. After listening to her, you have to make a decision - choose the second option from picture 1, i.e. ask the witch Alfrun to persuade the Castaway to join the team. From this moment on, you can put the dredge into combat (picture 2). After that, defeat any three enemies by using her.

Double Blind

Type of trophy: brown - List of Trophies and Achievements in The Banner Saga 3 - Trophies and Achievements - The Banner Saga 3 Game Guide

Type of trophy: brown

How to unlock: You have to take a distorted Sundra to the other side.

Commentary: You can kill Warped Sundr during the chapter 21. You have to lead to a situation where you have to go back to Arberrang for the third time to defend it. You must participate in a battle in a basement. The Sundr related to this achievement is Warped Eyeless presented in the picture above. Kill him.

Note - Replay this chapter and make bad decisions if you returned to Arberrang less than 3 times in your first playthrough - those that cost Iver's caravan time and those that won't give you any bonuses by helping the defenders of Arberrang.

Dredge Lover

Type of trophy: silver

How to unlock: You must complete the game with all the available dredge characters on your team. The game counts Dredges who have survived up until chapter 22, the game's finale.

Notes: This achievement excludes the unlocking of Dredge Slayer trophy.

Dredge Slayer

Type of trophy: silver

How to unlock: All dredges have to die and mustn't be left alive.

Notes: This achievement excludes the unlocking of Dredge Lover trophy. All Dredges should be dead before you reach chapter 22, the game's finale. The easiest way to do that is to lose the battle with Bolverk in chapter 21 (the final boss). All your caravan members will die (including the Dredges) except the main characters.

Eww

Type of trophy: brown - List of Trophies and Achievements in The Banner Saga 3 - Trophies and Achievements - The Banner Saga 3 Game Guide

Type of trophy: brown

How to unlock: You have to find the lost treasure in the dark.

Notes: You can unlock this achievement in chapter 19 of the game. When you reach the Denglr stone, you have to select the option to join the dredge Castaway to your team. Shortly after you leave menhir, the event in the picture above should start about finding the eggs. Allow the Castaway to approach them (the second option on the list), so you can get a trophy.

Fighting to Live

Type of trophy: silver

How to unlock: You have to persevere in defense to the very end.

Commentary: This achievement is tied to chapter 21. You have to return to Arberrang five times. You also have to win a battle every time you return to that town. You go back to Arberrang when Iver's caravan runs out of the days limit. If you went back to Arberrang less than 5 times during your playthrough then you have to replay that chapter and pick "bad" options, that is those that make Iver waste time.

Additional note - The battles that take place in the sieged Arberrang doesn't require you to fight until you defeat all enemies. Simply eliminate all enemies from one wave and then leave the battlefield.

Finish Strong

Type of trophy: gold

How to unlock: You have to finish the game at the Hard Difficulty level without losing a single battle.

Notes: This achievement is best addressed when you replay the game again, so that you know what potential problems await the team (especially bad decisions that can lead to the death of heroes). Above all, you will be better acquainted with the mechanics of fighting. You must select a hard difficulty level at the beginning of the game and you cannot change it from the pause menu. If you see that you are very close to losing a battle (i.e. bringing all the heroes down to the ground), then decide to load game. You can choose one of the checkpoints or fixed autosaves that are created by the game in the most important moments of the campaign (e.g. when you start a new chapter or reach an important location).

Godstone Denglr Redux

Type of trophy: bronze - List of Trophies and Achievements in The Banner Saga 3 - Trophies and Achievements - The Banner Saga 3 Game Guide

Type of trophy: bronze

How to unlock: You have to go back to Denglr's Godstone.

Notes: The achievement is automatically awarded in chapter 19. The group led by Iver, Juno and Eyvind passes by the Denglr Godstone. The achievement is awarded after you set the camp at the godly stone.

Godstone Dredge

Type of trophy: bronze - List of Trophies and Achievements in The Banner Saga 3 - Trophies and Achievements - The Banner Saga 3 Game Guide

Type of trophy: bronze

How to unlock: You have to get to the Dredge's Godstone.

Note: This achievement is unlocked automatically during chapter 21. The caravan led by Iver, Juno and Eyvind encounter Godstone Dredge. Break a camp near that place to unlock this achievement.

Good Listener

Type of trophy: bronze - List of Trophies and Achievements in The Banner Saga 3 - Trophies and Achievements - The Banner Saga 3 Game Guide

Type of trophy: bronze

How to unlock: You have to talk to at least 15 allies in Arberrang and in the darkness.

Notes: You can talk to the allies while in the city and in the camp. An example of a place, where conversations are available is pictured above. Click on the character icons to start talking. Try not to miss any opportunity to talk, which will allow you to unlock all achievements related to conversations.

Guided

Type of trophy: gold - List of Trophies and Achievements in The Banner Saga 3 - Trophies and Achievements - The Banner Saga 3 Game Guide

Type of trophy: gold

How to unlock: You have to finish the game without losing any heroes.

Notes: This is a very difficult achievement, as it requires you to make all the right decisions throughout the entire game. A hero can die if you chose the wrong action - an example of a message informing of a death of a hero is shown above. Not all choices in the game are obvious. Some may suggest the best solution to a problem, but this may come at the cost of someone dying. We recommend you completed the game with our guide and read all the messages the game gives you. In case anyone dies, you can load an earlier savegame.

Hard Difficulty

Type of trophy: silver

How to unlock: You have to finish the game on Hard.

Notes: Choose the hard difficulty right at the beginning and don't ever change it during the playthrough. The best way of obtaining this achievement is in the second playthrough, thanks to which you will be able to better prepare to fights and make better decisions when traveling with the caravan.

Horseborn Rampage

Type of trophy: bronze - List of Trophies and Achievements in The Banner Saga 3 - Trophies and Achievements - The Banner Saga 3 Game Guide

Type of trophy: bronze

How to unlock: You have to limit your losses related to the "misunderstanding" concerning the centaurs.

Notes: The argument with the centaurs takes place in chapter 16. The caravan will be halted by a mob, with which you will have to fight. The companions will tell you that the battle can be ended by eliminating only the enemies dressed in blue - refer to the screen above. Get rid of them and don't attack other villagers.

I'm Being Repressed

Type of trophy: bronze

How to unlock: You have to witness an act of repression committed by the authority.

Commentary: This achievement is related to one of the decisions that you have to make at the end of chapter 18 - the meeting with Rugga that happens just before the battle with Ruin. You have to beat up Rugga (the second dialog option) and then choose the option to kill him (presented in the picture above). Confirm your choice and ignore Oddleif's protests.

Journey's End

Type of trophy: silver

How to unlock: You have to lead Rooke or Alette safely to the end of the Saga.

Commentary: Rook or Alette can't die during regular battles. They can die only during two specific moments:

  1. When you open the gates for the Dredges at the end of chapter 20. Rook / Alette dies if you don't have a Dredge child (it can be found in The Banner Saga 1).
  2. By having one of the bad endings in chapter 22.

Keep It Together

Type of trophy: bronze

How to unlock: You have to finish the game with both Kanark and Hakon as allies.

Commentary: Certain decisions can lead to a situation where Canary and Hakon can leave Rook's/Alette's:

  1. In chapter 16 you learn about a massacre done by the Horseborn. Choose the first dialog option to allow Canary and the rest of her tribe to stay with you. However, they must promise you that they will follow all your orders.
  2. In chapter 18 you will have a conversation and one of the people involved is Hakon. Choose the last dialog option to convince Varl to help by giving them half of the supplies.

Living Legend

Type of trophy: bronze

How to unlock: You have to reach level 15 with a hero.

Notes: The achievement can be unlocked for any hero. It's best to choose your favorite character, who's around level 10-11 at the beginning of the game. Use them in the fights and always spend points on them first.

Looter

Type of trophy: silver - List of Trophies and Achievements in The Banner Saga 3 - Trophies and Achievements - The Banner Saga 3 Game Guide

Type of trophy: silver

How to unlock: You have to win with the last wave of enemies in all battles during the game.

Notes: The first battle, in which enemies come in waves happens in chapter 17, and the game gives you a brief tutorial explaining these fights. After repelling the first wave, the game will offer you a choice: you will be able to Flee or Fight, in which case you will have to withstand the remaining waves. Always choose the latter option. Usually, you will have to deal with two or three waves, for defeating which you will most likely get a unique artifact.

Note - remember to remove wounded warriors from the battlefield after each wave and substitute them with those fit to fight. If you still have trouble with the hardest battles, consider playing the game on easy.

Mixed Martial Arts

Type of trophy: bronze

How to unlock: You have to win a battle with a team consisting of at least one human, centaur, varl, and dredge.

Commentary: This achievement is tied with Rook's/Alette's caravan and it requires you to make specific decisions:

  1. Chapter 16 - you learn about a massacre done by the Horseborn. Allow Canary and the rest of her tribe to continue their journey with you.
  2. Chapter 20 - you have to open the gate for the Dredges. This will lead to Rook's/Alette's death. However, they will get replaces with a Dredge.
  3. Chapter 21, during the siege of Arberrang - you need a party that consists of at least one human, one Horseborn, one Varl and the Dredge from chapter 20.

Normal Difficulty

Type of trophy: silver

How to unlock: You have to finish the game on Normal difficulty.

Notes: Choose the normal difficulty right at the beginning and don't ever change it during the playthrough. You can try to do this during the first playthrough - this is the recommended difficulty.

Pacified

Type of trophy: bronze - List of Trophies and Achievements in The Banner Saga 3 - Trophies and Achievements - The Banner Saga 3 Game Guide

Type of trophy: bronze

How to unlock: You have to ensure eternal rest for Bolverk.

Note: Bolverk is the final boss. The fight with him takes place in chapter 21 when Iver's caravan reaches The White Tower. Check out our walkthrough if you want to know how to defeat Bolverk. Below you can find a few important tips:

  1. Choose the second option when you are talking with Bolverk (attack Bolverk when he doesn't expect it). Iver starts the battle by pushing Bolverk - he is closer to the enemy. What is more, Bolverk can be attacked right from the start (other dialog options force you to defeat 2 waves of enemies first; Bolverk will appear with the third wave).
  2. Bolverk has a lot of Armor and health points. However, his unique skills are the most problematic here. Frenzy allows him to attack two targets and push them; Cull the Weak gives him one additional turn when he knocks one of your heroes down.
  3. Send more powerful warriors to fight with Bolverk - his Cull the Weak won't be as effective against them.
  4. Attack Bolverk right away, don't bother with other enemies until the boss is dead. The trophy is unlocked right after Bolverk's death (the picture above), before the end of the battle.

Pass It On

Type of trophy: bronze

How to unlock: You have to reinforce four allies with the Juno's energy wave before it fades out.

Commentary: Juno travels with Iver's caravan. Use her in any of the battles. Start with placing 4 other characters next to her (they have to stand on adjacent tiles). As Juno, use Weaved Energy on any of the allies. Thanks to that the spell will be passed on to 3 other characters.

Passive Aggressive

Type of trophy: bronze - List of Trophies and Achievements in The Banner Saga 3 - Trophies and Achievements - The Banner Saga 3 Game Guide

Type of trophy: bronze

How to unlock: You have to use items and titles to provide one character with three passive skills.

Notes: You need the artifacts that provide new skills after they're applied. They're highlighted in yellow in the item description - see above. Give the same character a hero's title that grants a new ability.

Peace Offering

Type of trophy: bronze - List of Trophies and Achievements in The Banner Saga 3 - Trophies and Achievements - The Banner Saga 3 Game Guide

Type of trophy: bronze

How to unlock: You have to give the dredges their child back.

Commentary: Sadly, this achievement is difficult to unlock because it requires you to have a Dredge child that can been found in The Banner Saga 1. If you have it then you can open the gate for the Dredges (the end of chapter 20). Rook/Alette won't die - they will hand the child over to the Dredges. After that you will unlock this achievement.

Poetic Justice

Type of trophy: bronze

How to unlock: You have to listen to Aleo waxing poetic.

Restless

Type of trophy: bronze

How to unlock: Don't give the Ravens even a minute of rest.

Notes: The Ravens travel with the group led by Iver, Juno, and Eyvind. You assume control over that caravan in chapter 17 for the first time. The achievement will require you to ignore the rest option, which appears every time you set the camp. This means a serious decrease in the party's morale, so trying to obtain this achievement in the first playthrough might not be the best idea.

Rings a Bell

Type of trophy: bronze

How to unlock: Don't learn the lesson the first time.

Ruined

Type of trophy: bronze - List of Trophies and Achievements in The Banner Saga 3 - Trophies and Achievements - The Banner Saga 3 Game Guide

Type of trophy: bronze

How to unlock: You have to defeat the Ruin in battle.

Notes: Ruin is one of the two bosses in the game. You face her around the end of chapter 18. More details on defeating her can be found in a chapter of our guide devoted to that fight. Here are some quick tips:

  1. Ruin is able to regenerate. You can break her barrier before she regains strength or tries to defeat her before she uses the ability again.
  2. It's a good idea to attack only her from the onset of the battle. Take care of other enemies only if they pose a direct and serious threat.
  3. Ruin can perform some very powerful attacks, including the Overwhelming Force. If she uses the ability, quickly get away from the damage area.
  4. You get the achievement after defeating Ruin, rather than after winning the whole battle.

Scrape By

Type of trophy: silver

How to unlock: You have to finish the game with two caravans, but only with 16 characters alive.

Scrivener

Type of trophy: bronze - List of Trophies and Achievements in The Banner Saga 3 - Trophies and Achievements - The Banner Saga 3 Game Guide

Type of trophy: bronze

How to unlock: You have to defeat three enemies with Ubin.

Notes: Varl Ubin is not available by default. He may join the caravan led by Rook or Alette. This can happen during the duel with Ruin in chapter 18 - the moment, when Ubin appears is shown above. You don't have to defeat the three enemies in a single battle.

Shipped

Type of trophy: bronze - List of Trophies and Achievements in The Banner Saga 3 - Trophies and Achievements - The Banner Saga 3 Game Guide

Type of trophy: bronze

How to unlock: You have to accept the offer.

Notes: This enigmatic achievement concerns romancing Oddleif. This is possible if the main caravan is led by Rook (he had to survive the finale of the first part of Banner Saga). At the end of chapter 16, you will have to talk to Petrus and Oddleif. During the conversation, you will have to accept Oddleif's proposal and declare you want to do the deed (the dialogue option above).

Shortcut

Type of trophy: bronze - List of Trophies and Achievements in The Banner Saga 3 - Trophies and Achievements - The Banner Saga 3 Game Guide

Type of trophy: bronze

How to unlock: You have to safely make it to Ridgehorn.

Notes: You reach Ridgehorn at the end of chapter 19. The achievement is unlocked when you enter the ruined city.

Sole Survivor

Type of trophy: bronze

How to unlock: You have to exile Juno forever.

Commentary: This achievement is tied with one of the main endings. Lose the battle with Bolverk (chapter 21) and then kill Eyvind in chapter 22. More details about the endings can be found on the page dedicated to Chapter 22.

Talk It Out

Type of trophy: bronze

How to unlock: You have to convince Eyvinda to make the right choice.

Commentary: This achievement is tied with the game's endings. In chapter 22 you have to keep picking the dialog options that are on the very top (the conversation with Eyvind). Then, you have to convince the man. More details about the endings can be found on the page dedicated to Chapter 22.

The Saga Concludes

How to unlock: Import your save from The Banner Saga 2.

Commentary: This achievement is available only in the PC version of the game. You need saves from The Banner Saga 2. Start The Banner Saga 3 and choose the option to import saves - you will continue the game with the same heroes, supplies and items.

Thin Ice

Type of trophy: bronze - List of Trophies and Achievements in The Banner Saga 3 - Trophies and Achievements - The Banner Saga 3 Game Guide

Type of trophy: bronze

How to unlock: You have to survive the journey on the frozen sea.

Commentary: This achievement should be unlocked automatically during chapter 21. Iver's caravan must cross the frozen sea.

Trapped

Type of trophy: bronze - List of Trophies and Achievements in The Banner Saga 3 - Trophies and Achievements - The Banner Saga 3 Game Guide

Type of trophy: bronze

How to unlock: You have to trap two enemies in craters.

Commentary: Sinkholes appear in the first battle of chapter 21 - see the picture above. For this battle you have to pick characters with skills that can push enemies. Wait for an enemy to stop near a tile with a sinkhole. Then, choose a hero who can push enemies and use this skill on that foe (that opponent has to land on a tile with a sinkhole). Use this method to stop two Warped.

Warmonger

Type of trophy: silver

How to unlock: You have to fight 30 battles in one playthrough.

Notes: To get this one, you have to search for chances for additional battles. These can happen, for example, when one of the characters wants to attack encountered enemies. Check the rest of our guide for detailed information about possible battles. You have to complete 30 battles in one playthrough, so keep this in mind since the very beginning.

We Made It

Type of trophy: bronze

How to unlock: You have to join the splintered family.

Commentary: This achievement requires you to make specific choices. Their list can be found below:

  1. Open the gate at the end of chapter 20. This will lead to Rook's/Alette's death.
  2. Reach the game's finale and unlock one of the good endings. When the first part of the credits is over, the game will play a cut-scene that depicts events in Arberrang. It will show Rook and Alette who are in the land of the dead. After that you will unlock this achievement.

Which Witch

Type of trophy: bronze - List of Trophies and Achievements in The Banner Saga 3 - Trophies and Achievements - The Banner Saga 3 Game Guide

Type of trophy: bronze

How to unlock: You have to recruit Alfrun to your caravan.

Notes: Alfrun the witch can join the group led by Iver, Juno, and Eyvind. This can happen at the beginning of chapter 17, right after the first battle with the Warped. You don't have to do anything particular - just recruit her.

Notes: Alfrun travels with the group led by Iver, Juno, and Eyvind. The first opportunity to use her in battle is in chapter 17. Use her abilities to defeat three enemies.

Worse for Wear

Type of trophy: bronze - List of Trophies and Achievements in The Banner Saga 3 - Trophies and Achievements - The Banner Saga 3 Game Guide

Type of trophy: bronze

How to unlock: Don't let Folka lose her head because of Bolverk.

Notes: This achievement requires you to make the right decision during the confrontation with Bolverk. This happens at the end of chapter 19. The crucial moment is pictured above - you have to choose the second option: pull Folka away before something goes wrong. Otherwise, Bolverk will kill her.

Young Love

Type of trophy: bronze - List of Trophies and Achievements in The Banner Saga 3 - Trophies and Achievements - The Banner Saga 3 Game Guide

Type of trophy: bronze

How to unlock: Do you like me? Oh, yes / Oh, no.

Commentary: This achievement requires you to play as Alette (choose her at the beginning of the game or import a save from the previous games where she didn't die at the end of The Banner Saga 1). Also, Alette can't die in chapter 20 (this can happen if you open the gate).

In chapter 21 you have to go back to Arberrang three times. Meet with Egil during the third visit. Choose the dialog options that are on the top. Soon, the game will allow you to kiss Egil on the cheek - see the picture above. Select this option to unlock the achievement.
