Almost from the beginning of System Shock Remake you have to destroy or avoid the Hopper laser turrets. On this page of the guide, you will find tips on how to deal with turrets using different types of firearms, as well as EMP grenades.
Finding turrets
You will start encountering Hopper laser turret from the first level - Medical. They are a big problem because they do a lot of damage and they can be tough.
You can run or sneak behind the turrets that are facing the other way. Once they see you, they can, as the name suggests, start hopping. Don't treat them as just stationary threats.
Firearms
Don't fight them until you get your first gun. Attacking an active turret with a melee weapon is suicide. Things that can help you destroy turrets:
- TB-05 Sparqbeam Sidearm
- JW-76 Mag-Pulse Rifle
Stand by a wall or other cover, lean out for 1-2 shots, hide behind the cover and wait for the turret to fire back.
Do not bother with destroying 100% of the turrets, because SHODAN can "summon" more. Destroy those that interfere with exploring an important room or reaching your destination.
EMP grenades
EMP grenades are also helpful in neutralizing turrets. However, remember that the EMP charge only temporarily disables the Hopper - it doesn't destroy the turret. Use this opportunity to quickly destroy the Hopper - use, for example, a melee weapon to save ammunition.
Don't waste EMP grenades just to get around a turret, because there is a good chance that you will go through this place later.
