Disabling the Citadel's laser is a mandatory mission objective in System Shock Remake. The walkthrough from our guide explains how to get the security write code and how to use it, how to sabotage the mining laser and how to unlock the Executive Level.

In System Shock Remake, one of the things you must do is to disable the Citadel mining laser to thwart SHODAN's plans. This page of the guide describes the larger puzzle with the laser - we tell you how to get security override code, where is the Reactor Control panel and how to sabotage the laser and get access to the Executive level.

Citadel laser

Mining laser is one of the main elements of the Citadel you explore in the game. SHODAN charges it to shoot an energy beam towards Earth and destroy our civilization. You can help the artificial intelligence with this process - this will unlock the Bad ending which we have described in a separate chapter.

Your main goal should be to deactivate the laser.

Security override code

Visit the room Admin Security in the eastern part of the Research Labs. There you will find Science keycard.

You can use it to open the Library door in the southeast part of the map.

Go to the last room in the library and find a cyberspace terminal. You need to connect to the network and destroy the lock from picture 1. The game should display a message about obtaining the Safety Override Code.

After leaving cyberspace, the code 485 should appear on one of the screens.

You need to reach the Reactor deck and, finally, be able to reach its central part. The picture shows the passage to Safety Override.

Your destination is the control panel with keyboard. You must enter code 485, and then pull the lever unlocked on the right. You should receive the message Safety Interlocks Disabled.

Disabling the laser

Get back to the Research Labs and use the Science keycard to open General Control in the central part of the map. Then go to the Control Room.

Get to the console with the Laser Charging text and push the button visible in the picture.

If you did all the steps correctly, the laser will go offline instead of shooting an energy beam at Earth. SHODAN will comment on your success.

Unlocking the elevator to the Executive level

Turning off the mining laser will allow you to explore further decks of the Citadel. You can now get to the elevator on the Flight Deck and use it to travel to the Executive (previously, the game was displaying a message Power diverted to Level R.)
