System Shock Remake has an evil ending that features the victory of artificial intelligence - SHODAN. This page of the guide describes the main ideas of the negative ending and what actions you need to perform to unlock it. We also explain whether it is possible to reverse the decision and continue attempts to stop SHODAN.

The main points of the evil ending

From one of the audio logs you can learn that SHODAN is planning to use a mining laser to attack the Earth. The evil ending is associated with contributing to this plan.

Reaching the laser control room

You can unlock the evil ending early in the game - while exploring the second deck Research laboratories.

You must first get the scientific department keycardand use it to open the section Central Control. Reach the entrance to Control Room presented in the screenshots above - this is the middle part of the map.

Starting the laser and trigger the evil ending

Approach the console with the inscription Laser Charging. Here, you can press the big button.

You will see from the screen that a great stream of energy hit the Earth. After a while, SHODAN will call and thank you for "helping" with the plan.

From the additional cutscene you will learn that the hero was captured and turned into a cyborg by SHODAN.

Reversing the bad decision

After watching the evil ending, you will see a screen similar to Game Over. You can load the previous save game file to go back to before the laser button was pressed. This will allow you to resume your efforts to stop SHODAN and see a good ending.
