Last update: 27 March 2021

This is where your lifepod crashes - it's the starting area, in which you'll spend most of your time early in the game. It hasn't got a well-defined boundary, but it borders on Kelp Forest and Grassy Plateau biomes.

Maximum depth of this biome reaches about 70 meters. The area is covered mainly with coral reefs. Another thing you'll find here are numerous small cave systems.

The seabed in the shallows is irregular and hides numerous caves.
  1. Shallows are a good source of cave sulfur, limestone, quartz, acid mushrooms, and both types or corals. Some of the caves may also contain small amounts of sandstone. Due to the proximity of the crash site, scrap can also be found in this biome.
  2. When it comes to dangers, the shallows are without a doubt the safest biome in the game. The only "native" danger are the Gasopods.

  1. If you get too close to them, they will release acidic gas pods that can deal a hefty amount of damage when they explode. On the boundaries of adjacent biomes you can encounter other dangerous species of fauna. Near the Kelp Forests you may encounter Stalkers, and Sand Sharks can appear near Grassy Plateaus.
  2. The Shallows are a safe, resource-rich biome. It's worth visiting even if you're much later in the game. You just have to remember that due to the presence of very shallow waters in this area, you should refrain from using the Cyclops.
