Colossi are the only opponents in game - you'll encounter 16 of them. You are forced to defeat them in the pre-defined order. Beating the game unlocks access to Time Attack mode, where you can choose a single boss to fight with.

The only way of making the game easier is increasing your total health and strength, which was described in the FAQ. Each boss can only be defeated in a single way, by applying a certain strategy.
