This section of Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice guide includes the walkthrough for your first visit at the Dilapidated Temple. The guide presents a list of the most important activities available at this unique location, where you meet no enemies.
Dilapidated Temple is a safe haven in Sekiro. You will encounter no foes here, and you can return to the temple to meet friendly NPCs.
After entering the temple, you will acquire the Shinobi Prosthetic. You can also talk to the Sculptor. Later on, you can return to him to engage in new conversations and ask him to build now prosthetic tools basing on the components you acquire - all the available gadgets are described in the Prosthetic Tools section of this guide.
There is a Buddha idol in the room with the sculptor. You can return here later, after finding the Young Lord's Bell Charm at the Ashina Outskirts, which allows you to move back in time to Hirata Estates. More on that in the How to unlock access to Hirata Estates section of this guide.
Emma the Physician is standing outside the building. You can deliver the Gourd Seeds you find to her to maximize the capacity of the healing Gourd. More on that can be found in the Gourd Seeds and How to increase the capacity of the Healing Gourd sections of this guide.
After you get through the main story, Emma will leave the Abandoned Temple. Fortunately she won't completely disappear from the game world. Instead, the woman will move to the upper tower of Ashina Castle. More information about her new location can be found on the Where did Emma go?
There is a Sculptor's Idol at the main yard. Its fundamental use resembles campfires from Dark Souls - you can rest, regenerate your strength (and save the game) at the cost of all the defeated enemies respawning.
Other activities you can perform by the idol involve purchasing new skills, quick travel (after unlocking two different idols), and upgrading your character's health bar. All of them have been described in the Sculptor's Idol section of this guide.
Hanbei the Undying resides in one of the side areas of the temple. You can practice different attacks and dodges with him for free. Training sessions take place in a safe zone - you do not have to worry about losing health points or dying. It is a good idea to return to Hanbei regularly after unlocking new skills and moves - you can practice each one.
Behind Hanebi, there is an Offering Box. Later on, you will be able to collect unique treasures from it.
Take the path leading to Ashina Outskirts to leave the temple. This is where you have to use the grappling hook for the first time. It is possible after the grapple icon turns from grey to green (example in the screenshot above).
While exploring Ashina Castle you can meet Fujioka the Info Broker. After you talk to him he may appear in the Temple and offer his services. In addition to offering common goods for sale, Fujioka also offers two hint memos and Gourd Seed. More information about this character can be found on the "Traders" page in our guide.
Later in the game a secret passage becomes available, which connects the Temple with Ashina Castle, specifically with the Kuro's Room in the upper tower of the castle. The secret passage is located in the place in the cave shown in the picture - there is a short path from the main building (the one with the Sculptor). You have to approach the wall and lean against it with your back to turn on the rotating door mechanism.
