Saints Row 2022: Beginner's guide - list Saints Row Guide, Walkthrough

This page of the guide to Saints Row contains a set of tips for begginers. The hints cover, among other things, combat, acquiring finds or character development.

Last update: 30 August 2022

On this page of the Saints Row guide, you will find starting tips for various aspects of the game. We have covered all gameplay elements that may be unclear at the beginning, and those that have been illogically explained by the game.

Use your smartphone - it has important apps

The smartphone is your most important "gadget" and you will use it to perform many important activities - Saints Row 2022: Beginners guide - list - Basics - Saints Row Guide, Walkthrough

The smartphone is your most important "gadget" and you will use it to perform many important activities. Its main uses are:

  1. world map - you can find various types of markers on it and plan your travel route;
  2. accepting new missions - in the task application, you will find the currently available story missions available;
  3. calling allies for help - they can join you and help win a fight;
  4. setting active skills and perks - you can choose from those already unlocked;
  5. quick change of the character's appearance - you do not have to return to the hideout or visit the changing room in a store.

Not all applications on your phone are immediately available - some of them will be unlocked after completing the starting missions. In addition, some smartphone functions may be temporarily blocked during missions (e.g. changing outfits).

Restore lost health with takedowns

You must remember that the hero's health does not automatically regenerate during the battle - Saints Row 2022: Beginners guide - list - Basics - Saints Row Guide, Walkthrough

You must remember that the hero's health does not automatically regenerate during the battle. Automatic regeneration starts only after the fights are over.

Fortunately, you don't have to complete the entire battle without restoring the health bar. You can partially restore health with takedowns. You can use them by running to enemies (only those without armor) and pressing the takedown button (Triangle/Y). After performing this action, you must always wait for the takedown to renew (cooldown). We recommend using it only when you lose a lot of health.

Store good vehicles in your garage

You can use garages - your hideout and the car workshop (they are shared) - Saints Row 2022: Beginners guide - list - Basics - Saints Row Guide, Walkthrough

You can use garages - your hideout and the car workshop (they are shared). Initially, there is only 1 vehicle there, but as the game progresses, you can steal cars and deliver them to the garage so that they will be permanently added to your collection (you can remove unwanted vehicles from the garage).

We recommend doing this to obtain a few good vehicles, e.g. a police car. Vehicles stored in the garage can be taken from it any number of times. That vehicle does not disappear from the list of stored ones after you leave the garage with it. You should also remember to improve vehicles so that, for example, they become faster and more durable, or that they acquire unique features (e.g. a tow cable).

Detonate explosive objects with quick shots

You can spot explosive objects to kill nearby enemies or cause a nearby structure to collapse - Saints Row 2022: Beginners guide - list - Basics - Saints Row Guide, Walkthrough

You can spot explosive objects to kill nearby enemies or cause a nearby structure to collapse. Try to shoot them, especially since the game makes them easy to hit. You can fire a Quickshot at the explosive objects to detonate them immediately. To do this, you have to face them and press the appropriate button (Triangle/Y on the controller, NOT the shoot button).

This will be very useful in the first story mission in which you have to protect the APC vehicle. You can quickly blow up explosives on the distant structures you pass by.

Have good skills and perks ready

In Saints Row, you can increase your hero's combat capabilities with Skills and Perks - Saints Row 2022: Beginners guide - list - Basics - Saints Row Guide, Walkthrough

In Saints Row, you can increase your hero's combat capabilities with Skills and Perks. In both cases, you have to unlock them and place in active slots:

  1. You will gain new skills by leveling up your character. You have 4 slots for active skills (several abilities are passive meaning they work all the time). We recommend focusing on having a wide variety skills, e.g. a skill that increases the chances of survival and an area attack in the other.
  2. You can gain new perks by completing challenges. Talents are divided into 3 tiers. You must first purchase the slots (not counting the first one) and then place the selected perks in them. You can freely change the perks that are active at the moment to, for example, better match them to the mission.

Destroy the armor of enemies with a yellow health bar

Early in the game, you will begin to encounter strong opponents with armor symbolized by a yellow bar - Saints Row 2022: Beginners guide - list - Basics - Saints Row Guide, Walkthrough

Early in the game, you will begin to encounter strong opponents with armor symbolized by a yellow bar. You must first focus on depleting it - use strong attacks or, for example, explosives. Also, keep at bay those elite enemies who use melee attacks.

After depleting the yellow bar, you can deal with the red one. This is the only chance to perform a takedown on a strong opponent. Deplete both bars to kill that enemy.

Use sideswipe while driving vehicles

Traveling around the game world in vehicles doesn't mean you can't opponents - Saints Row 2022: Beginners guide - list - Basics - Saints Row Guide, Walkthrough

Traveling around the game world in vehicles doesn't mean you can't opponents. First of all, you can perform a sideswipe to damage enemy vehicles. This technique is especially helpful if you are being chased by the police or hostile gangs, because each sideswipe will seriously damage their vehicles or can destroy them.

You can also shoot while driving. You can do that by moving your hand out the window or jumping on the roof of the vehicle (someone else has to drive it then). However, it is a bad idea to try to run over opponents moving on foot, because they can jump to the sides. Usually, it is easier to just jump out of the car and defeat them in the traditional way (you can use the vehicle itself as a cover).

Travel a lot in new areas of the map to discover new markers

When the world map is unlocked, only shops, tattoo parlors and the first hideout will be marked on it - Saints Row 2022: Beginners guide - list - Basics - Saints Row Guide, Walkthrough

When the world map is unlocked, only shops, tattoo parlors and the first hideout will be marked on it. You have to discover all the other locations in the game world on your own.

The game adds new icons for locations and activities after you approach them. From now on, they will be always visible on the map - you do not need to find them again. Each new territory is worth exploring carefully. When examining the world map, you can find out how many activities of a specific type are in a given district. This will help you determine what can be discovered.

Help ventures to have a steady flow of cash

Ventures guarantee constant income - you can get this cash via the application - Saints Row 2022: Beginners guide - list - Basics - Saints Row Guide, Walkthrough

Ventures guarantee constant income - you can get this cash via the application. Initially, these will be small amounts (e.g. 1,000 dollars per hour). However, you can establish cooperation with other businesses. Additionally, you can complete 100% of a given venture to receive a single large reward (e.g. $30,000). It looks a bit different for each business, e.g. you can level up a friendly garage by stealing specific cars.

Do not forget to transfer money to your account on a regular basis, because the maximum pool of funds accumulated in the application is limited and after reaching it, businesses will stop accumulating money for you. This garage is the first business you will encounter during the main story. You will learn about the next ventures and establish relationships with them as the game progresses.

Pick up ammo or choose other weapons from your inventory

Most of the fights in Saints Row involve firearms - Saints Row 2022: Beginners guide - list - Basics - Saints Row Guide, Walkthrough

Most of the fights in Saints Row involve firearms. Unfortunately, you can quickly run out of ammo, especially if you are using a rapid-fire weapon. Look for ammunition supplies in the same locations where you fight opponents. It may, e.g. appear with cash as loot.

When you run out of ammunition, do not stop fighting, but switch to another weapon for which you have ammunition. This will allow you to continue fighting from a distance. Your character can carry various weapons in your inventory - you can quickly select them from the weapon radial menu. You don't need to retreat from the battlefield.

Call allies for help

In Saints Row, you don't have to fight alone, even if you aren't playing in cooperation with other players - Saints Row 2022: Beginners guide - list - Basics - Saints Row Guide, Walkthrough

In Saints Row, you don't have to fight alone, even if you aren't playing in cooperation with other players. After completing the main mission of taking over the church, you will unlock the ability to call allies - Eli, Kev and Neenah. You can do it by using the address book in the smartphone - you can call a given companion and ask them for help, e.g. in surviving a tough battle. But know that allies are not immortal and may require help - you have to do that before they die.

Note - In certain situations, the game may block the option to call allies. The game can block the entire application with the contacts list or you will receive a notification that a given companion is unavailable. The most common reasons for this are completing a story mission in which you cannot summon help, or being in a place where your companion cannot reach.
