A river of lava in the Calador Bay is one of the barriers that you cannot cross, at first

After you complete several introductory quests at the Crab Coast, you gain access to a small vessel (a ship). From now on, you are free to visit all isles, in any order you want (with the exception of the Skull Island that is connected with the game's finale). Usually, there are no boundaries to your exploration. Still, there are three exceptions:

  • The huge gate into the Kila island
  • The eastern part of Calador, separated by the river of lava
  • The locked HQ of the main mage on Taranis

These three locations are connected with the game's storyline and it is impossible to reach them without joining one of the factions and completing The Ancient Knowledge quest. Any attempts to get there are futile, because the game returns you, automatically, to the closest "permissible" location.

It is very useful an option to turn into the parrot, thanks to which you can reach the seemingly inaccessible locations - Game world exploration - Risen 3: Titan Lords - Game Guide and Walkthrough
It is very useful an option to turn into the parrot, thanks to which you can reach the seemingly inaccessible locations

Apart from the above, the world of Risen 3 can be explored without any restrictions, where it is worthwhile to remember several hints:

  • Pay attention to campfires and single cottages, search through encampments and pick up every teleportation stone that you find. Usually, the stones are more plentiful than the teleporters that you can activate with them, which is why you should always have an appropriate supply. It pays off to activate each teleporter that you run into, because quests have you go into various, often distant, parts of the isles. Active teleporters make it much faster to receive, complete and end quests, just as they do the exploration of isles.
  • Use the Parrot Flight spell. Not only will you then be able to reach seemingly inaccessible locations, but also you can use this for a thorough reconnaissance - all the monsters ignore you in your parrot form. You should not run out of spell scrolls and also, if you follow the voodoo path, you will be able to commit the spell to memory, at the low price of 6 Jade.
  • Here and there, there are locations that you cannot squeeze through into. You can get there as a trained monkey. As a rule, wherever you notice the animal roaming, there is a location that you can get to, as the monkey. Thanks to this, you will open a blocked passage, find treasure or even find a quest item.
  • Search out lianas, thanks to which you can reach ledges or buildings. High above, you can always find something interesting.
  • Examine waterfalls. Sometimes, there are hidden caves behind them.
  • Explore for places that you can climb and take advantage of them.
  • During your travels, you will often get into traps - after you press, quickly, the key displayed on the screen, you will save your own skin.
  • You can invest into the development of Astral Vision - the more important elements of the surroundings will be displayed then. All you need to do is approach them.
