Way to unlock the quest: Automatically, after you find the book (Swordmaster) (Taranis isle).

You could unlock this quest while on the Taranis isle, i.e. after you found the mages HQ and found an interactive book on the upper floor. The treasure has been hidden on an islet that neighbors Kila (point 18 on the map), which you can easily swim to. You need to climb the highest hill and deal with the beasts that have been named in the walkthrough for the "All Cats Are Grey By Night" side quest (you complete that quest in the same location). After you have secured the area, find the X on the ground and use the shovel to dig up the treasure. In the chest, there are 120 gold pieces and the Tattered Scabbard), among others (it is one of the legendary items).
