Less needed items can be temporarily left on the ground or given to another playable character

The fact that each of two playable characters has only six inventory slots is a very serious impediment in Resident Evil 0 HD. Due to that, filling the whole inventory and being unable to collect other items in the game world can happen very quickly. Below you will find some advices related to optimal management of the inventory:

  • The basic pistol that both Rebecca and Billy have since the beginning of the game should always be in their inventory. Filling the second slot with ammunition for that weapon is worth considering. You can ignore that idea if you are playing on the lowest difficulty level since killing a zombie in that situation requires using only 1-2 bullets and you can refill the weapon's clip as you find supplies in the game world.
  • One of the characters should have Ink Ribbon that allows saving the game in his equipment. Of course, you don't need to keep it in inventory of one character permanently through the whole game.
  • The characters can trade items depending on which one of them needs more place in inventory at the moment. Use this function to make some place for a character that will soon pick new important items (for example, a key to the door).
  • Items that are temporarily not needed can be put on the ground. They will be marked with dots on the map. You don't need to be afraid that you will lose access to them later in the game - even after you complete the first part of the game and leave the train, you will still be able to pick them up whenever you want.
  • Try to have one free slot at one of the characters for First-Aid Spray and/or Herbs. You can also combine herbs to obtain items with stronger or different effect (only Rebecca can do that). Possible combinations can be found in a separate chapter of this guide.
  • Billy has a knife equipped by default. This weapon is useful only on the highest difficulty level when there is a constant problem with ammunition. If you are playing on lower difficulty settings, you can get rid of that weapon and gain one free slot.
  • Some bigger weapons (like shotgun) take two slots in the inventory. Add them to your inventory only if you really need them, for example when you will be facing a boss. In other circumstances it is better to get rid of them (you can always go back for them and pick them up).
  • Try to always have 1 or (even better) 2 free slots in your inventory. It is very important as many items needed for solving riddles or opening blocked passages require space in the inventory. After you use them they can automatically disappear from the inventory or you will be asked whether you want to get rid of them (always confirm).
