Last update: 11 April 2023

On this page of the Resident Evil 4 Remake guide you will find information about New Game Plus. This is a mode, which allows you to complete Resident Evil 4 Remake once again, but some items acquired in the first playthrough carry over to your new save. Here we have included all the most important information.

New Game Plus mode rules

After completing Resident Evil 4 Remake for the first time, you will unlock a new game mode - New Game Plus mode. This way you can keep most of what you have gained and play the game again. This is useful for players who want to make it a little easier to complete the game on higher difficulty levels (like Hardcore and Professional).

Once you see the ending and find out what rank you received, there will be an option to create an endgame save - Resident Evil 4 Remake: New Game Plus - Appendix - Resident Evil 4 Remake Guide

Once you see the ending and find out what rank you received, there will be an option to create an endgame save. You will gain a lot if you do not overwrite it in the near future. This way, you will always have the opportunity to start New Game Plus on the difficulty level of your choice - including Professional, which unlocks after the first playthrough. Otherwise, you will be forced to play on the selected level or use the option to change it to the lowest level (Assisted) during gameplay, which is irreversible and locks the achievement associated with the given difficulty level.

Many of you may find it disappointing that when playing in New Game Plus mode, it is impossible to get the S+ rank that is required to earn all achievements or trophies - Resident Evil 4 Remake: New Game Plus - Appendix - Resident Evil 4 Remake Guide

Many of you may find it disappointing that when playing in New Game Plus mode, it is impossible to get the S+ rank that is required to earn all achievements or trophies. We have elaborated on this on the page Ranks S and S+. The scheme is as follows:

When you load a save with a completed storyline, you can carry over all your data and start a new game. You will be able to buy new weapons from the Merchant, but it will be impossible to get the S rank.

Content that carries over to New Game Plus

Most of what you gained in the first playthrough will carry over to the second playthrough. It concerns the following items:

  1. Items and weapons from the Inventory and Storage;
  2. Ammunition and crafting items;
  3. Weapon upgrades and and their condition (including, for example, damaged knives);
  4. Unused tokens from the shooting range;
  5. Unsold Treasures;
  6. Cases and pendants;
  7. Pesetas (PTAS);
  8. Spinels;
  9. Health improvements;
  10. Weapons and some Trade items;
  11. Eliminated Clockwork Castellans;
  12. Achievements from the shooting range.

What doesn't carry over to New Game Plus?

Some of the acquired content unfortunately doesn't carry over. It concerns the following items:

  1. Read Files;
  2. Key Items;
  3. Requests.

Once you start a save in New Game Plus, the number of collected treasures is reset. You can collect them from scratch in the next playthrough, which opens the way to buying all weapons and upgrades for them. Purchasing all available weapons will grant you the Gun Fanatic trophy. In New Game Plus, you can also deal with the three bronze trophies associated with collecting all treasures in particular locations in a single playthrough - these are Bandit, Raider and Burglar respectively. You don't have to worry about doing it on a "fresh" save.
