Resident Evil 4 Remake is a game where it's easy to die, so you should save the progress whenever you can. This page explains when the game automatically saves progress, as well as how to make manual saves by using Typewriters. We also answer the question of whether saving is free.
Autosaves
Resident Evil 4 Remake creates autosaves at certain points. A circle icon will appear in the upper left corner of the screen. The game saves the current state usually when entering a new location or wining a larger battle.
Manual saves - Typewriter
You can find Typewriters - they allow you to manually save the game. All machines found are marked on the area map.
Manual saves are free. Typewriters in RE4 Remake do not need Ink Ribbon.
Other Typewriter tabs
The typewriter interaction offers 2 other options in addition to saving progress:
1) Storage - You can use the storage. It allows you to keep selected items from your inventory, such as weapons and their upgrades. The storage is shared among all typewriters in the game world.
2) Customize Case - You can change the model of the case (new ones are available for purchase from the merchant) and install Charms offering various passive bonuses (won for Shooting Range Tokens).
Saving between chapters
Save can also be created on the chapter summary screen. Press the Typewriter button to create a new manual save. This must be done before starting the next chapter (Next option).
