Difficulty levels and ranks for completing the game in Resident Evil 2 Resident Evil 2 Guide and Walkthrough

Last update: 24 January 2019

Resident Evil 2 can be called a difficult game. This series has several characteristic features such as unusual fights with monsters, limited ammo supplies or lack of health regeneration.

Difficulty levels

The game has three difficulty levels. - Difficulty levels and ranks for completing the game in Resident Evil 2 - Basic informations - Resident Evil 2 Guide
The game has three difficulty levels.

The game has three difficulty levels that differ significantly from each other. The rank you get by completing the campaign depends on which difficulty you chose (these ranks have an impact on some of the trophies/achievements and additional content [e.g. concept arts]).

  1. Assisted - enemies on this level are weaker (you need less shots to defeat them). They also deal less damage. A portion of your health regenerates automatically over time. Aim assist is on (also on PC), you find more ammo in boxes. On this level, you are able to eliminate every enemy encountered during the game. Assisted difficulty level isn't challenging at all.
  2. Standard - this level is for the majority of the players. The enemies can be challenging (regular zombies often get up after being shot) and some of them should be avoided to preserve ammo. The enemies deal a little bit more damage and are slightly more resistant to your attacks. You can't regenerate your health automatically. You also find less ammo.
  3. Hardcore - this mode isn't recommended for those who play the game for the first time and are unfamiliar with Resident Evil series. Besides much stronger and resistant enemies, you will also find much less ammo. Try to go around enemies that can be avoided. Also, this difficulty level doesn't have autosaves and the only way to save your progress manually is to have ink ribbon. The number of ink ribbons determines how many saves you can make - they are in places where on lower difficulties you would find different items. This lowers the amount of loot (e.g. you can find ink ribbon in a place where you would find ammo). One ink ribbon takes one slot in your inventory.

If you can't beat some of the parts (i.e. you die a lot, e.g. while fighting a boss), the game will ask you if you want to lower the difficulty. Remember, if you do that, you will have to play the game on that difficulty until the end.

Ranks

After beating the game, you will see your overall score and rank: S, A or B. Your rank in sonly influenced by the amount of time it takes for you to complete the game - finish it in:

  1. S - less than 3:30h
  2. A - less than 5:00h
  3. B - less than 8:00h

Ranks are also connected to the difficulty levels.

To get higher ranks, complete the game faster and with a small number of saves. - Difficulty levels and ranks for completing the game in Resident Evil 2 - Basic informations - Resident Evil 2 Guide

By getting higher ranks, you will unlock new trophies/achievements and complete in-game challenges (they provide new content).
