Use artillery

Artillery units have long range, so if properly placed, can decimate enemy ranks without endangering your own units. Even if you only suspect that an enemy is hiding in the area, pad the area with artillery shells, as this unit deals area of effect damage, perfect for thinning-out enemy infantry units.

Learn keyboard shortcuts

Orders for your troops can be accessed by clicking on the appropriate keyboard shortcut, significantly speeding up the action compared to clicking the particular icon on the interface. This is especially important during heavy combat, when you need to quickly withdraw injured troops, when you need to hold fire, or simply check the field of view before ordering further maneuvers.

Send reconnaissance units

Although battles take place in real time where both sides can make moves, it still pays off to take a moment to explore the area with a recon unit. You may strike gold and discover the current location of the enemy, giving you tactical advantage. Remember to activate Hold Fire order, so you won't reveal your position. Even more so that recon units don't have any significant firepower or large amount of health points.

Flank your opponents

In Regiments, flanking is a basic combat maneuvre. It is very useful when you need to e.g. deal with entrenched enemies. Simply send a unit forward so that enemy fire is focused on it, and send two more from both sides. Thanks to this, you will deal more damage and neutralize the enemy faster, at a cost of lower casualties compared to a frontal attack with numerous units.

Use Tactical Support

Tactical Support are special actions that will help you gain an advantage on the battlefield, and sometimes even turn it around. You can find a list of currently available support on the panel on the left side of the screen . It can be a smoke screen limiting the field of view of enemies, rocket raids wreaking havoc or a napalm drop on a specific area. Each special action costs a given amount of tactical points that are generated over time. Don't forget that after using tactical support, you need to wait a few moments before you can use it again.

Use the Line of Sight Tool

When planning an attack, you need to know the capabilities of your units - this means line of sight and the effective distance of their weapons. The Line of Sight Tool will help you in this, creating a graphical representation of the above. Remember that a very important element of an effective offensive is to have your units attack first . Click on a unit and press C to quickly bring up the Line of Sight Tool.

Complete the tutorials

The tutorial, divided into 3 parts, is available from the main menu. Each of the tutorials deals with different issues related to the mechanics governing the game, camera operation and the type of units. Before starting the actual game, be sure to play the tutorial to learn the basics. Otherwise, you can quickly get lost in the rush of rather non-obvious solutions and rules.
