You could have already noticed that the use of covers is absolutely mandatory in more intense firefights - if you've played Red Dead Redemption 2. In RDO, taking cover is even more important, as other players can kill you really quickly.

When you hide behind a wall, building or another structure, you can look around and aim at enemies. You can walk along the shields, or move to other safe points to protect yourself from enemy gunfire. It's a good idea to master the trick of quickly finding enemies, quickly targeting the head and shooting - if you lean out for too a long time, other players will quickly spot you and shoot you with a deadly headshot.
Is it always worth to use covers?
Absolutely not and very often, especially in matchmaking series, what counts is time and a very aggressive attitude. If you move from cover to cover, others will quickly gain an advantage in points over you. It's very important to move quickly to other enemies and use covers only when you're sure you can continue to shoot with other players. A quite effective strategy can be charging with a shotgun, or butchering enemies with a knife - you need to strike the golden medium and adjust the style of play to the current Red Dead Online mode.
Dead Eye in Red Dead Online
The deadly precision in Red Dead Online works differently than in single player mode, where your special ability was mainly based on bullet time. Of course, it is impossible to slow down time in a multiplayer mode and the creators have prepared changes that further enhance the special skills of your main character.
You can buy and place skill cards in the skillset menu and then use them in the same way you use the Deadly Precision in RDR2. At the same time, you can use three passive skill cards and the effects of the acquired cards work automatically. When you earn experience points while wearing the cards of your choice, these will also advance with you and you will be able to improve them.
