Playable heroes - introductory information
In the game Ratchet & Clank Rift Apart there are 5 playable characters - 2 main characters (Ratchet and Rivet) and 3 additional ones that take an active part in the presented events much less frequently.
An important note is that you cannot freely switch between characters. The game determines which character you will be playing as during each stage.
Ratchet & Clank Rift Apart does not offer multiplayer or co-op modes. It is a single-player production and only one character can participate in fights, exploration, or solving puzzles.
The game features character levels and equipment mechanics, but it's important to note that the development of the 2 main characters (Ratchet and Rivet) is shared. Once you switch to another playable character, you don't have to earn XP from scratch or separately collect weapons for them. These aspects are automatically carried over from the previous playable character.
The main character available from the beginning of the game is Ratchet. He's a character well known to fans of the series and the new adventure begins during a grand parade in Ratchet and Clank's honor. In Rift Apart, Ratchet has some of his well-known skills and weapons as well as brand new abilities and attacks.
Ratchet is a playable character on certain planets during the course of the campaign. In certain stages, the game may also alternate between controlling him and Rivet.
Depending on the chapter, Ratchet may be accompanied by Clank or Kit. At certain points of the game, you will also explore locations without a second character attached to your back.
Rivet is a character that was only revealed during the game's production. She is the second main playable character in Rift Apart. She belongs to the furry lombax species, just like Ratchet. Rivet comes from another dimension where she is a member of the local resistance.
Rivet is a playable character on select planets visited over the course of the campaign. During some stages, the game may also alternate between controlling her and Ratchet.
Depending on the chapter, Rivet may be accompanied by Clank or Kit. At certain points of the game, you will also explore locations without a second character attached to your back.
Rivet and Ratchet - can they meet in the game?
Yes. As you progress through the game, you can witness conversations and face-to-face encounters between Ratchet and Rivet. However, this only occurs during select cutscenes. Once the actual gameplay resumes, the game will only allow you to control one of the heroes.
Clank is a small robot that has appeared in all of the previous games in the series. For the majority of the game, he serves as a companion who does not engage in combat.
Separate mini-stages have been prepared with Clank in mind. These are logic puzzles solved in the space between dimensions, in which your task is to direct the running projections towards the stage's exits.
Kit - KT-7461
Kit is a brand new character who, like Clank, is a small robot. She will initially introduce itself as KT-7461, but eventually she will be given her new nickname. In the past, Kit has been a combat robot in the service of Emperor Nefarious and as a result she is capable of fighting, but this isn't featured in the form of playable sections.
Similarly to Clank, Kit travels on the hero's back most of the time and comments on the occurring events. She can also solve logic puzzles based on leading the projections to meta-terminals in interdimensional space.
Glitch is a tiny, spider-shaped robot encountered fairly early in the game. This character does not appear in the game at all for the vast majority of the time. You will need to use Glitch whenever you come across an interactive, infected console.
Glitch carries a weapon and in the miniature reality, it can use it to eliminate hostile viruses and destroy their nests. These are short sections that only take up a few minutes, though one of them will culminate in a unique boss battle.
