Break Out | Main Story Prey Guide

Last update: 22 May 2017

The page contains a walkthrough for the Break Out quest in Prey. It's part of the main storyline and starts right after the prologue. In the course of the quest, you will learn that you're in fact onboard the Talos I station. You will have to move to the lobby right after getting out of the apartment which is but a mock-up. On the way to the lobby, the protagonist encounters Mimics for the first time and obtains several basic weapons.

Getting out of the apartment

You can investigate the apartment again (attention - you've lost all items and notes that you picked up in the prologue!) or put on the Suit right away and exit the apartment. In the corridor, you'll find dead Patricia. Be sure to grab the Wrench shown in picture 1. This item becomes your basic weapon and remains useful even after you find a Shotgun or Pistol later on.

You can exit the apartment in numerous ways, for example, by destroying the aquarium in the corridor or breaking the window in the apartment (image 2). Leaving the starting area will help you enter the Simulation Labs of the Neuromod Division.

Reaching the lobby

Climb up to the upper level or go up the stairs. - Break Out | Main Story - Main Story - Walkthrough - Prey Game Guide
Climb up to the upper level or go up the stairs.

Starting from this point, you can focus solely on subsequent mission objectives or take your time to explore, as well. Also, you have to bear in mind that you will regularly encounter Mimics. Hints on how to fight them can be found in the Combat chapter.

In order to continue the quest, you have to reach the higher level of the Simulation Lab. You can do it by climbing up the nearby objects or by going through the room with the chopper inside of it. In the latter case, you will reach the stairs leading to the upper floor soon after you've exited the flight simulation room.

Follow the arrows that point the way to the Lobby - Break Out | Main Story - Main Story - Walkthrough - Prey Game Guide

Follow the arrows that point the way to the Lobby. When you approach the sliding door of the decontamination room, you will witness a Mimic attacking a station worker. Enter the Research and Design room. The nearby door are locked. To enter the next area, you can either:

  • Explore the area in search of the Simulation Lab keycard. You can find it on the desk in in Sylvain Bellama's office shown in the above image in Sylvain Bellamy's office. Be very careful because Mimics may attack you when you take the keycard.
  • Use the ventilation shaft. The entrance is located high up on the wall on the right from the locked door.
Soon after entering the new area, you will encounter the first Phantom but you dont have to fight it now - Break Out | Main Story - Main Story - Walkthrough - Prey Game Guide

Soon after entering the new area, you will encounter the first Phantom but you don't have to fight it now. Go through the main corridor and then stop on the corridor shown in the above picture. On the floor, there is a GLOO Cannon which you should take. You can test the weapon after you've entered the Neuromod Division Lobby because several Mimics will attack you there. It's best to stop these monsters using the Cannon and then finish them off with the Wrench.

Before you finish the described mission, you can take on an extra quest, Everything You Know is About to Change, which is unlocked by talking to January. Having finished all affairs in the surrounding area, go to the door that leads to Talos I Lobby.
