The survival mode was added to No Man's Sky along with the update. This mode allows players to face much more difficult enemies and limited resources on faraway planets.

What's the survival mode like?

In the survival mode, the health points of all enemies were increased, so fighting them takes more time and is more challenging. Additionally, all enemies get more attack points, being able to kill the protagonist with a few hits.

Also, the survival mode severely limits the resources available on the planet. This forces the player to manage the resources carefully.

If you die in the survival mode, you will lose all the resources from your equipment and from the ship. On top of that, you will respawn on the nearest planet, in a remote location far away from the ship.

From other important news: remember that at the very beginning, your characters are also spawned far away from the ship. You need to collect valuable resources and manage them carefully in order to reach the ship safely.

How to start a Survival playthrough?

In order to start the game in survival mode, you need to create a new save game. There, you will see the game mode selection screen. If you want to start the game in the survival mode, just click the survival mode button.

How to start a survival playthrough?

The most important thing at the beginning is reaching the ship. Usually, it's around 30 mins from your starting location. We've prepared a short list of tips that will help you reach your vessel.

Use the scanner - in the survival mode, the resources are scant. It's possible that you won't find anything interesting in the vicinity. The scanner will show you the nearby resources, so you can collect them on your way to the ship.

Reset the save if the planet is too difficult - the first planet of No Man's Sky can be pestering, but if you happen to find yourself on a planet covered in ice, or a toxic one, then reset the save. The chances of reaching the ship in such an environment are slim at best.

Gather resources - after reaching the ship, you have to launch it and escape the planet - gather the resources and repair the ship asap.

Hide in caves - if the weather suddenly deteriorates, stop looking for the ship and find shelter instead. Hide and wait and you should be able to make it.
