This page of the NieR Automata game guide contains the walkthrough of Chapter 13 in which you control 9S. Tower Recon - hacking the tower
You can gain access to Chapter 13 for the first time after you select the option to Support 9S in Chapter 11 (Route C and D). Alternatively, you can first play through the new chapters centered on A2 (the third playable character in the game) and then play as 9S later. No matter what you choose, you can't skip the new stages focused on 9S.
You'll start in the Resistance Camp where you will be greeted by Dovola and Popola. The first quest objective is located outside of the rebel hideout. The tower will appear above the City Ruins. Go towards it and try hacking at its base.
3 small Sub-units will appear . Try to hack one of them to learn that you will need to find the 3 keys required for each unit. The first key is obtainable in the Forest Zone.
Obtain Keys - finding the key in the forest
You can reach the forest using various methods, such as fast travel. Head towards the giant structure known as the Resource Recovery Unit, which is located in a ravine.
Find the entrance at the base of the Recovery Unit. The pod will read out the Meat Box inscription above the entrance and then you can head inside.
Remember to use the pod flashlight when necessary (by pressing the left analog stick) to illuminate the darker rooms of the tower. While exploring the mechanical structure, you might find chests with loot and many of them will contain valuable items, such as high quality chips.
Fights against machines await you on almost all floors of the Meat Box tower. However, these battles aren't very intense and you can use hacking to destroy your opponents even faster. Don't revive the bodies of other players, because they will turn against your character.
After defeating each group of enemy machines, the elevator that goes to the next floor will be unlocked. Unfortunately, you can't complete all floors at the same time, as on each subsequent one you will be required to exit the elevator and take part in the fight.
One of the battles will take place in the dark and it's worth using the option to lock your camera on the opponents so that your ranged attacks won't have the chance to miss. You can also continue to use hacking to make things easier.
Expect to fight against a mini-goliath as well. You can attack it from a distance or weaken it by successfully hacking it.
You have to reach the top floor with the yellow core. Before you approach it, you will need to eliminate the final (easy) opponent.
A cut-scene will play and you will obtain the Forest Access Key. The chapter ends with the cut-scene of the defeated machine.
Selecting the next chapter
As in Chapter 11, you will be able to make a choice:
- Monitor A2 - This option will allow you to play as 2S and you will first need to complete Chapter 12.
- Monitor 9S - This option will allow you to continue playing as 9S. You will proceed to Chapter 15 where you will need to obtain the second key.
