On this page of the guide to NieR Automata, you will find information on how to unlock fast travel, also called teleportation/transport. We also explain how to use fast travel and what are its limitations.
Unlocking fast travel
You will not be able to use the fast travel mechanic for the first 5-10 hours - it depends on how much time you spend on optional exploration and side quests. We advise you to postpone side missions for later since most of them involve traveling around the game world - having the fast travel unlocked will significantly speed up the time spent on them.
During one of the main quests in Chapter 5, you must descend into the caves under the ruined city and defeat the bosses (see our walkthrough for more information).
On the way out of the caves to the surface, you will be contacted by operator 6O. A little further you will meet Jackass standing next to an Access Point.
When you interact with the Access Point, you will get a message that the fast travel was unlocked - the game calls it 'transport'.
Using fast travel
To use fast travel, you must interact with any Access Point and select Transport.
You will see the list of discovered Access Points - you can choose any of them. Fast travel is free.
Be sure to explore all newly visited areas to unlock new Access Points. This is the only way to display them as fast travel points.
