War Mage - MU Legend character classes DPS, crown control and AOE in MU Legend - guide

Last update: 07 December 2017

The War Mage is a character class using powerful magic to obliterate enemies. Thanks to his attacks and abilities he can deal immense damage from a safe distance, as well as in melee range. He is especially effective when dealing with large groups of enemies, but he can also apply numerous negative status effects to bosses. The War Mage is a very versatile character, with access to different abilities, which also makes him the most difficult class in the entire game.

The War Mage, as all of the available classes, can use two different types of equipment - a staff, as well as a magic sword and a grimoire. The former allows the character to attack foes from a safe distance, dealing increased damage when the enemies are at least 10 meters away, turning the character into a typical mage. The latter, a sword and grimoire, turns the War mage into an assassin fighting in melee range, greatly increasing the risk of dying, but giving a boost to damage against enemies that are closer than 9 meters. The selection of the weapon depends on the playstyle of the player - the staff should be used when creating a typical mage, the sword and grimoire to create an assassin.

The War mage deals high single- and multi-target damage, but his strength lies in weakening enemies and abilities that offer crowd control (CC) effects. The character can apply effects such as slow, knockback, stun, damage over time and can even decrease the defenses of the enemies, making them receive more damage. He is extremely effective when dealing with large groups of monsters, where he can obliterate them with area of effects skills, as well as during encounters with bosses, using multiple abilities to severely decrease their power. Additionally, he has great mobility - he has access to several abilities that allow him to teleport around the battlefield.

The biggest flaw of the War Mage is his durability - his health pool is small and his defense is weak, making him extremely vulnerable to enemy attacks. This is especially true to the mages fighting with a magic sword and a grimoire - they need to monitor their surroundings all the time, weakening nearby enemies and teleporting away when it gets dangerous. One mistake can end with the death of the character. This problem is partially eliminated when the mage is using the staff to fight from a safe distance, but the player still needs to watch out for enemy attacks.

The War Mage is a powerful class, but he requires proper control and planning. This character class is not suited for players that are starting their adventure in MU Legend.

General information

Pros

Cons

Difficulty level: very high

Damage: high / very high (depending on the weapon)

Durability: low

Crowd Control (CC): very high

Preferred role: DD (Damage Dealer), support

+ High adaptability - by using the staff the player can turn the character into a typical mage, whereas the sword and grimoire allow one to create an assassin fighting in melee range;

+ Very high area of effect damage - the character has access to the most powerful AoE attacks in the game;

+ While using the magic sword and grimoire, the character deals the highest damage from all of the classes;

+ A perfect character for the role of support - he has abilities that can significantly decrease the effectiveness of enemies;

+ Extremely effective in party - while using the staff the player can focus on dealing damage without the risk of receiving damage and while using the sword and grimoire the player can simply jump in, deal damage and retreat to safety;

+ Multiple crowd control (CC) effects - stun, slow, knockback;

+ The ability to apply multiple damage over time (DoT) effects and to decrease armor - both of those are extremely effective against bosses;

+ High mobility - the character has access to multiple teleport abilities;

+ Expert skills deal ridiculously high damage to enemies.

- Extremely vulnerable to enemy attacks, especially when using sword and grimoire - 1-2 attacks of stronger foes can kill the mage;

- Requires the player to constantly monitor his/her surroundings - when necessary, the player needs to teleport away, use a weakening effect or turn invulnerable to survive;

- Requires proper understanding of the game mechanics, such as attacks and tactics used by the bosses;

- Lack of abilities that offer direct benefits to the party;

- Some of the abilities require the player to charge them, further increasing the chances to die.

Expert skills

The War Mage, similarly to all other classes, has access to 6 expert skills. Each of them features a passive and an active part. The skills are:

  1. Confusion - the passive part decreases the defense of enemies within 20 meter radius. The active allows the character to use a charge-up skill, dealing damage over time to affected enemies.
  2. Wallop - the passive part increases the max health and defense of the character. The active part deals high area of effect damage to enemies standing directly in front of the character. The ability can be reactivated within 2 seconds, sending a wave of energy, dealing damage and pushing the enemies away.
  3. Destruction - the passive part decreases PM consumption. The active part allows the character to call down a meteor to the specified location. The meteor deals immense damage, knocks the enemies away and applies damage over time effect.
  4. Invincibility - the passive part stuns the enemies when the skill is cast multiple times. The active part allows the player to freeze the mage for a few seconds, turning the character invincible. After several seconds the ice breaks, dealing damage and slowing down nearby enemies.
  5. Pain - the passive part increases the damage of the mage by up to 9% depending on the amount of nearby enemies. The active part allows the character to create 5 mana orbs, orbiting the character and dealing damage to enemies.
  6. Devastation - the passive part decreases the cooldown times of all of the abilities. The active part allows the character to create an ice cyclone, dealing damage to enemies and applying Freeze effect.

Tips

War Mage expert skills allow the player to severely weaken the enemies and deal ridiculously high damage.

You should remember about the following things:

  1. Check carefully all of the available skills for this character class - especially those connected to particular weapon types - and decide which playstyle suits you better. This is especially important in the case of the War Mage, as it changes the playstyle entirely - the staff allows the player to create a typical mage, attacking enemies from a safe distance, whereas the sword and grimoire pair turn the mage into an assassin fighting in melee range.
  2. Thanks to two different weapons, this character is highly adaptable. If you want to deal the highest possible damage and you aren't afraid to die from time to time, you should use sword and grimoire. If you, however, prefer to deal lesser damage and be relatively safe in combat, try the staff.
  3. This character is very effective at solo play. The War Mage can quickly eliminate a large group of weaker enemies and can apply multiple damage over time (DoT) and crowd control (CC) effects on bosses.
  4. The War Mage is also good when in party. A mage using a staff can attack the enemies from a safe distance, whereas the one equipped with a sword and a grimoire can easily jump in, deal some damage and jump out of the combat, allowing the tank, preferably the Dark Lord, to keep the enemies from chasing the mage.
  5. You should choose expert skills in conjunction with the weapon you are going to use. Wallop, Invincibility and Pain are better suited for an assassin (sword and grimoire), whereas Confusion, Destruction and Devastation will work better on a long-range mage (staff).
  6. Use multiple crowd control (CC) abilities. Binding Blizzard and Power Slash allow the mage to deal damage and decrease the movement speed of enemies. Cold Murder and expert skill Devastation can stun the enemies, preventing them from doing anything for a short time.
  7. Remember about the abilities that allow the mage to teleport from place to place. Full Throttle and Bloodfest deal considerable damage and allow the mage to avoid enemies, or to simply switch his position.
  8. If you are planning to fight in melee range (assassin War Mage), consider using abilities that increase the durability of the character. The expert skill Invincibility gives a bonus to health pool and defense and allows the mage to turn invincible for a few seconds. Specter Shield allow the mage to create a shield that can absorb damage equal to 20% of mage's max health and explodes after breaking, dealing damage to enemies.
