Starting tips Tips for beginners in MU Legend - guide

Last update: 24 November 2017

Initially, MU Legend might overwhelm you with all its options and information you get right from the start. In this chapter, you can find the starting tips regarding completing quests, combat, and the general gameplay mechanics. All this to help you understand this elaborate game.

General tips

  1. Upon starting the game, consider carefully which class to choose. Each available character has distinctive features and stats - e.g. the Whisperer can attack enemies from a distance dealing them significant damage; nonetheless, she has to stay mobile in order not to die.
  2. You can test each character upon starting the game. The game features a short tutorial, in which you can control a maxed out character (level 65) equipped with upgraded abilities. After the character level returns to 1 the actual game begins.
  3. If you have such option, join or create a tight team with your friends, with whom you can play. This proves useful when traveling to Dungeons with high difficulty level - each character on your team increases the enemies' level, however, both the potential rewards and perks increase as well.

Using a mount allows your character to move much faster.
  1. If you do not have a team of your own, you can always use the automatic companion search mechanism - it is available on the entrance menu to each Dungeon. Using it, you end up in a team comprising randomly selected players.
  2. Do not bother yourself with finding a Pet. As you complete consecutive story quests (more or less when your character is between level 15 and 20) you get your first Pet companion - you do not have to spend a dime!
  3. You can develop each of your companions by increasing his combat effectiveness. This, in turn, gives you more bonuses and rewards. You can find more information regarding this topic in the chapter titles "Companions".
  4. Your character can move faster by using Mounts. You get the first one for completing one of the main quests (level 25-30). You can acquire more in many ways (i.a. purchasing one from a vendor). More detailed information regarding this issue can be found in the chapter titled "Mounts".
  5. Apart from the "regular" experience levels, your character can unlock consecutive Soul levels and receive additional points, which can be spent on passive abilities (similarly to Paragon System in Diablo 3). This allows you to increase the combat efficiency of given character's elements or get an additional bonus to the experience points you earn.

Combat

  1. When fighting monsters, try to keep them in a group. This way, the area attacks (which constitute the majority of abilities available in the game) will hurt multiple enemies at once, making the fights significantly shorter.
  2. Do not engage a too large enemy group. Fighting 30 enemies at once might be tempting, however, your character will probably end up dead and you will lose time.
  3. Do not chase fleeing enemies. If it is not a boss or a monster you need to defeat in order to complete a quest, do not bother and focus on other enemies.
  4. Make sure to monitor your health bar. The game can be very fuzzy at times and you might die unexpectedly when you cannot see your character. Nonetheless, the health bar is always clearly visible.

Battlefields can become quite messy...
  1. Each character uses "mana" to activate most of the abilities. During a fight, try using your abilities in such way so that the blue indicator oscillates around 50% - this will allow you to use more powerful abilities at any time and will ensure that mana does not regenerate in vain the mana tank is full).
  2. Each ability has its own recharge/cooldown time - this is the time that has to pass in order to use a given ability again. You can decrease it by using certain items and using Soul points.
  3. You can use up to 7 abilities (both left and right mouse buttons, and Q-W-E-R-T keyboard keys). Consider equipping one ability, which does not consume mana and one which uses only a small amount of it. This way, you will never end up in a situation where your character is unable to mount an attack. All the remaining abilities can be chosen as you see fit.
  4. Each boss you encounter in the game has unique attacks and requires you to come up with a distinct strategy. Boss' special attacks are indicated (you can see the area on which the enemy is about to attack) and deal major damage - they can even kill your character with one hit.

Each boss fight requires a unique approach.
  1. Make sure to watch both the areas of attack and boss' behavior - it often happens that with limited time for you to react your character ends up hit even though he or she was outside of the indicated area. Each boss signalizes the intention to mount an attack - similarly to the opponents featured in the Dark Souls series.

Completing quests and earning experience points

  1. Complete all the quests available at a given location. Doing this is the main (and the best) way to earn experience points allowing you to unlock next character levels.
  2. All the quests in the game are divided into three groups - story-related (orange), regular (blue), hunting/time challenges (Purple).
  3. The most important are the story quests - by completing them you can unlock new mechanics (expert abilities) and locations. Even if you decide to ignore the remaining two groups of quests, you have to complete to story quests.
  4. Accept all the available quests from a given location. This way you can complete several of them simultaneously (e.g. by eliminating enemies who are stationed near one another). This will significantly accelerate the process of earning experience points.
  5. Ignore side quests, in which you have to cover the large distance to complete them. There is no sense in wasting precious time on quests scattered around - better go to the next location (where the story quest leads you).
  6. If you run out of quests (this might occur when your character has a low experience level), you can earn additional experience points in Rifts and Dungeons. It is also a good idea to kill monsters - this is not the fastest way of earning experience, nonetheless, it allows you to reach the next level.
  7. Do not waste your time on the tedious grind (continuous monster killing) to unlock consecutive levels. MU Legend is no Diablo or any other Hack & Slash game, where experience points are earned by killing hundreds of monsters - here, it is best to complete quests.
  8. It is a good idea to invest all your Soul points to get an additional bonus to experience you earn. Each point you pent gives you a 0.4% bonus to experience - 25 points makes 10%, 50 - 20%, and so on. This will make unlocking consecutive levels much faster.
  9. Certain items can add a bonus to experience. Consider equipping them even if other items you have are more powerful. Upon reaching level 65, do not use this method anymore.
  10. If you have some potions in your inventory that add a bonus to experience points you earn use them when completing quests and killing a lot of opponents. Do not activate them when you plan to stay in a city for a bit longer.

Obtaining currency (Zen) and items

  1. Zen is the currency you use in MU Legend to purchase new items at stores and auctions, repair your gear, and many more. This is why you have to seize every opportunity to get it.
  2. When your character has a relatively low experience level, you do not have to bother yourself with thinking of a way to earn Zen. Upon reaching level 55, you unlock a new Dungeon (Luery's Secret Vault), where, once a day, you can go in to earn absurd amounts of Zen within over a dozen minutes.
  3. A good way to earn Zen is to put your gear to an auction. This way, you can sell an item for more Zen than you would get from any vendor. You can find Trade Brokers in large cities - their position on the map is indicated by a "scale".
  4. As you unlock consecutive experience levels, you get access to new Dungeons. Consider those available in the city of Ohrdor - inside the Room of Duty you can find several Dungeons, in which you can get precious items. You can read more about this in a chapter describing the Dungeons.
  5. If you have many unnecessary items in your inventory, for which you cannot get much Zen, consider dismantle them to get crafting materials. This way you can get a low of materials you can use to craft your own items. You can dismantle an item at any armor or weapons vendor.
  6. MU Legend features elaborate crafting system allowing you to create diverse weapons and armor parts. This system somewhat resembles the one from Diablo 3 - as you progress, you unlock new recipes you can use to craft given items provided, you have the right crafting materials. It is a good idea to use crafting on a regular basis, especially when you reach the maximum experience level.

Dungeons

  1. There are several types of Dungeons in the game - from the most basic Rifts, which are available nearly from the beginning to the mythical and extreme locations, which require players to have some skills or a good team.
  2. You can access most of the Dungeons for a limited number of times per day. It is a good idea to complete them every day, as this provides you with useful rewards. You can see the limit of entries after pressing ESC key.
You can choose the difficulty level before entering a Dungeon. - Starting tips - Tips and hints - MU Legend Game Guide
You can choose the difficulty level before entering a Dungeon.
  1. If you do not have enough time to complete a given Dungeon but you want to get some of the profit, you can use the Subjugate mechanic. This allows you to complete a Dungeon from the menu (press ESC to open the menu). This costs several premium currency points and gives you 60% of the profit, nonetheless, it saves you a lot of time.
  2. If you play alone and are not yet familiarized with the game, select the Dungeon difficulty level carefully. It is better to complete it at a lower, "normal" difficulty level within several minutes than to waste two hours on one of the higher difficulty levels - the reward will not compensate the time you lose.
