Location
Loose snow can be found high in the mountains. It is obtained by setting the cauldron, in the mountains. All you have to do is wait for it to fall inside, and then take it out with a bucket. Blocks are kept in a bucket. You don't get anything for smashing them.
Moving in the snow
You can collapse in loose snow. This applies to mobs and characters. The exceptions, however, are rabbits, endermites, and silverfish.
Walking in the snow is slow. However, you can easily walk on it with leather shoes.
Death
Falling into the snow will make the character begin to freeze. It could lead to death. Leather armor nullifies this effect.
