Worlds: The Overworld, The Nether, The End, The Void - features, description, basics, tips

Last update: 10 July 2020

In Minecraft, you can, by default, move freely among three worlds (dimensions):

The Overworld

Overworld - Minecraft: Worlds - Basics - Minecraft Guide
Overworld

Overworld is the game's basic world. It is the only one with the unlimited size of the generated map. It is here that most of the mobs, resources and objects are. It is also the only one to have biomes.

The Nether

Nether - Minecraft: Worlds - Basics - Minecraft Guide
Nether

Nether is a counterpart of "Hell", and the Nether Rock is the basic building resource here. The mobs that you will encounter here are much more dangerous than the ones on the surface, which is why the new players are generally advised against going there, if they are not properly equipped. The important thing is that 8 steps in the Overworld counts as one step in the Nether, thanks to which you can build tracks in Nether and travel over long distances faster.

The portal to Nether - Minecraft: Worlds - Basics - Minecraft Guide
The portal to Nether

To get to Nether, you need to use the Portal, which you can build by arranging blocks of obsidian into a vertical rectangle with no corners, and by setting it on fire (using flint). Then you only need to walk into the portal and wait for a moment. The return portal will appear in Nether. It is impossible to travel to Nether if the administrator blocked this possibility off.

The End

The End - Minecraft: Worlds - Basics - Minecraft Guide
The End

The End is a single isle-realm built off End Stone and obsidian pillars, which, in a manner of speaking, exists in The Void. You can also find here the Enderman mobs, as well as the final boss of the Ender Dragon game.

The portal in the Keep - Minecraft: Worlds - Basics - Minecraft Guide
The portal in the Keep

To get to The End, you need to find the portal. To do that, you need to obtain 12 Ender Pearls (sometimes, you can find them after you kill an Enderman) and craft them into the Eyes of Ender (you can buy them from the NPC merchants in villages). You also need to Blaze Powder, which you can obtain in Blaze Rod after you kill the Blaze in Nether. The portal is in the Keep that you will find using the Eye of Ender - after you use them, they go up into the air and steer towards the keep's entrance.

The Void

Void - Minecraft: Worlds - Basics - Minecraft Guide
Void

The Void is, basically, an inaccessible realm that serves as the background for the worlds. There are several ways to get there, by using some of the game's bugs, or in a way specified by the game, e.g. by jumping off the edge of The End.
