- For obvious reasons, you can have an affair with Garrus Vakarian only if he didn't die in the finale of Mass Effect 2.
- The game does not allow you to start a romance with Garrus from a scratch, so the only solution is to continue the relationship started in the second part of the series (this cannot be changed or made up in any way).
How to establish and develop a romance
You will meet Garrus for the first time during the main mission on one of the moons of Palaven - the walkthrough can be found on the Priority: Palaven page in our guide.
You will be able to refresh your entire relation only after getting aboard the Normandy. Visit Garrus, who will be in the same place as in the second part of the series, that is, in the Main Battery section. During the meeting reveal your interest in Garrus by kissing the turian to confirm your feelings. It is worth adding here that this kiss is not equivalent to the establishment of an "official" relationship, because you will make the final decision on having a relationship with Garrus in the later part of the game.
Now, it's worth to proceed to the process of building a positive relationship with Garrus, that is, by visiting him after each completed main mission. In particular, we advise you to take an interest in the conversation during which turian reveals that he fears for the fate of his loved ones who remained on the Reaper-infested Palaven planet.
Finale of romance with Garrus
It will take some time to build a relationship with Garrus after completing the main mission of repelling the attack of Cerberus' forces on the Citadel. You should receive a message from Garrus titled How about a break? in which you will be invited to meet the turian on the Citadel.
Go to the dock D24, find Garrus and talk to him in order to participate in a some sort of sightseeing tour. After reaching the vantage point finally confirm the desire to enter into a more serious relationship with him (kiss) and take part in an unusual gun duel (it is worth letting Garrus win by missing at the very end).
You can count on spending the night with Garrus shortly before you take part in the last mission consisting in attacking the headquarters of Cerberus. You can also meet Garrus when you arrive at the London encampment during the final part of the story campaign (screenshot above).
