Steven Cortez - preliminary requirements and key aspects of this romance
- You can have a homosexual relationship with Steven Cortez. Make sure that you follow all the steps leading up to the meeting at the Purgatory bar, otherwise it will be impossible to enter into a fully-fledged relationship with the lieutenant.
How to establish and develop a romance
The first opportunity of having a conversation with Cortez occurs shortly after arriving aboard the Normandy, that is, after completing the mission on Mars and meeting with the Alliance Council on the Citadel.
Make sure that you have had a full conversation with him, that is, in addition to selecting the main dialog options, you have also used up all optional topics.
The chance to have another long conversation with him will come some time after the main mission on Palaven has been completed. You should note, during one of your visits to the hangar, that Cortez mourns his deceased spouse (screenshot above). Another opportunity to have a conversation with Cortez occurs after completing the main mission on Sur'Kesh. In this case, your main goal should be to make Cortez forget about his responsibilities for a while and encourage him to use the pass in order to relax on the Citadel.
Special dialog option may be helpful in this case (screenshot above), but this choice is not mandatory (what matters is only to encourage Cortez to explore the Citadel).
Go straight to the Citadel and find Cortez in D24., noting that he is looking at passing spaceships. Initiate a conversation with Cortez and use special behavior option at the right time.
The opportunity to have another conversation with Cortez will appear during a visit on the Citadel in the later part of the game. Search for him nearby the Memorial Wall in the refugee camp (temporary port) and comfort him in saying goodbye to his husband. Also, in this case it is important to use the special behavior option (screenshot above).
Finale of romance with Cortez
The final level of relationship with Cortez will already occur after completing the main mission to repel Cerberus' attack on the Citadel. Namely, visit the Purgatory Bar on the Citadel. Head to the dance floor and find Cortez standing at the bar. In the course of this conversation you must confirm your interest in himand express the desire to dance with the lieutenant, reveal your feelings towards Cortez and select the special behavior option. Successful flirting will be rewarded with a kiss.
You can count on spending the night with Cortez shortly before taking part in the attack on the Cerberus headquarters mission, and the last conversation with him will occur during the final stage in London (he will not appear in person, the use of the communication terminal is required).
