Cars Mafia II Guide

Last update: 11 May 2016

The most important thing you should know about the cars is the difference between a realistic and a normal driving model. Choosing the realistic mode will make the car more likely to slide if you suddenly turn the wheel or if you apply too much gas and it will also increase the amount of time and the space it needs to stop. This is very important in the early missions played during the winter, especially since the cars from the 40's are more difficult to drive than the vehicles from the 50's. Generally you should remember about driving cautiously after you've gained some speed and planning your moves ahead instead of making sudden turns at the last second. As I've mentioned before, having the realistic mode active won't result in receiving any additional bonuses, so you should consider choosing it only if you feel that the normal driving model is far too easy for you. If you're not interested in fighting the car to stay on the road then you're better off with a normal driving model.

It's wise to store the best cars in the garage - Cars - Hints - Mafia II - Game Guide and Walkthrough

It's wise to store the best cars in the garage. You won't lose them and you will be allowed to take them for a drive from more than one location (for example - from Joe's place and from Vito's apartment).

The game allows you to store favorite cars in the garage and you should definitely do that, especially since it doesn't cost anything. There are two things here you should know about. All the cars you've stored won't vanish from your garage as a result of what happens in the sixth chapter of the game. You also won't have to worry about losing the cars from the garage if you chose one and then was forced to switch vehicles as a part of the mission.

Don't forget that each machine can be tweaked in a workshop and doing this will make it much faster. You should also remember about visiting the mechanics if you can't switch cars and the one you're using was damaged or is wanted by the police.

If you're looking for a certain model then you should also remember about visiting a corresponding area of the city. For example, limousines and expensive sports cars can be found in the downtown district, but you won't find anything interesting by going to the industrial districts.

A damaged car can be repaired, but it's only a temporary solution - Cars - Hints - Mafia II - Game Guide and Walkthrough

A damaged car can be repaired, but it's only a temporary solution.

If you seriously damage your car and notice black smoke you won't necessarily have to start thinking about find a new vehicle, because you will be allowed to repair it. Stand in front of the car and press the action key to allow Vito make the repairs. You should know that this trick will work only if the front of the car is not blocked by an obstacle. As for the repairs, Vito will only make small adjustments needed to continue the trip so the car will still be badly damaged.

The best way to steal a car is to break a window on the driver's side - Cars - Hints - Mafia II - Game Guide and Walkthrough

The best way to steal a car is to break a window on the driver's side.

There are two ways of getting new cars. A more risky way is to stand in front of one of the passing vehicles and throw out the driver. The reason for that is that the driver will probably try to reclaim his possession and this means engaging him in melee combat. It's much safer to steal cars parked on the side of the road or on a parking lot. I wouldn't recommend starting the lockpicking mini-game, because it takes more time and you can't see the radar while doing it, so you may be surprised by the cops. A much better way is to break down the window, especially since you won't be pulled over by the cops because of that.
