The cloud will point you to the current position of the convoy.

One of the ways to reduce the threat level is eliminating convoys consisting of few vehicles and the leader's truck. Convoys are driving through a specific route, not visible until you drive through a part of it or until you spot the convoy itself. The convoy can be found by observing the horizon line - a moving convoy leaves a cloud of dust behind it. If you notice such cloud from far away, you can be sure that a convoy is there. Once you find the convoy route once, it remains visible on the map, even after you eliminate the enemy leader.

Hood ornaments, one of the collectible items, are related to convoys.

The guards might have various upgrades which make it harder to reach leader's vehicle.

After finding the route, you must locate the convoy itself. It can be found at any point of the track. Look for a cloud of dust left behind the convoy, this will allow you to find it faster. If the route is going through covered territories, spotting the cloud might be harder or even impossible. In that case you must drive through the uncovered convoy route. At some point you will spot the enemy vehicle group.

The vehicles protecting the convoy will detach one after another from the group in order to interrupt you.

Each convoy consists of a leader's truck, which is your main target, and the guards. Eliminating the leader automatically eliminates the whole convoy. Because of that, the guards will focus on making it harder for you. The vehicles from the tail of the convoy will detach from the group and attack your car until your or their vehicle is destroyed. Despite the fact that eliminating the guards isn't required for destroying the convoy, sometimes it is wise to do it as it will make eliminating the leader easier.

Uncovered gas tanks are perfect targets.

There are many ways to destroy leaders' trucks. At the beginning, shooting the unprotected fuel tank will be enough. However, the more to the north and west of the map, the trucks and the guards will be better armored. Gas tanks will become covered and the tires reinforced. Upgraded harpoon and the Thunderpoon will become useful. One of the upgrades for Max's vehicle's wheels will also allow dealing damage when driving near enemy vehicle. If you have such upgrade, it is wise to drive next to leader's truck and consequently deal damage to it.

Stopping the convoy and fighting the guards on feet is possible as well - just shoot the tires in leader's vehicle.

Enemy vehicle can be also immobilized by shooting one of the tires (depending on truck's armor, one or few shots will be enough). This will stop the whole convoy. You can take care of the security in melee combat (however, watch out for being run over, enemies won't leave their cars immediately). No matter the method you chosen, destroying the enemy truck will let you collect the Hood Ornament from the ground. Remember that you can install them in your own vehicle - various masks give various bonuses.

If you have a specific upgrade, you can stick to the truck and reduce its durability.

You can eliminate the convoy gradually. The security that increases in strength and numbers as you progress in the game doesn't need to be destroyed at once. As long as you remain on the route, enemy vehicles will not respawn. Don't worry about your own damage, Chumbucket will always repair you. Eliminating the security methodically will take much more time, but with each time the convoy will be less protected. However, if you die, the vehicles will respawn.
