On this page of our Like a Dragon: Ishin guide we have listed all Training locations - these are martial arts masters dojos (where you can learn new skills) and combat challenges (where you can get XP and unique rewards).
The battle arena wasn't included, as it's a more complex area offering more challenging battles. We've described it in detail on a separate page.

Most important information about masters and training grounds
There are 5 locations tied to martial arts masters and training in Kyo. Meeting the masters lets you unlock new skills on the skill trees. These are initially locked off with padlocks. Completing the training removes the padlock and lets you purchase the skill for the cost of 1 Orb.
Note - Some skills unlocked by masters are far down the skill tree. You must purchase the previous skills first to reach them.
Though training varies depending on the master, usually:
- you must execute correct moves according to the instructions on the screen the correct number of times - for example, you may be asked to counter five times;
- completing a lesson unlocks one or two new skills for purchase - you'll be informed which ones.
The next lesson can become available immediately or after meeting the master's requirements (more information later down the page). At the end you may need to face the master himself - they're all very challenging opponents.
Completing training challenges, on the other hand, lets you learn more about the combat styles, earn XP and unique rewards. Treat them as an optional activity, their purpose being to help you develop your character.
The masters' dojos and training grounds are marked with green Training icons on the map, though they must be visited first. Their locations are initally hidden - we've listed them below.
Komaki Dojo (Fushimi)

Visit Shinmachi in the south-eastern part of Fushimi - you can do so from Chapter 2 onwards.
You'll witness a conversation between a master and his apprentice. Talk to the young man to enter the dojo.
Master Komaki Munemitsu specializes in the Brawler style. After completing the introductory lessons, you can ask Komaki for the next lesson's requirements - you must win a certain number of fights. Random encounters against thugs in city streets count as well.
Cannon Coaching (Mukurogai)
Related map marker: Training - Cannon Coaching @ Kyo Interactive Map
Visit the eastern part of the Mukurogai district - you can do so at the end of Chapter 2 (after reaching Mukurogai by boat) or later.
Ryoma will notice a cannon, letting you talk to its owner - Professor Shinbei. During his lessons you'll learn how to destroy projectiles fired out of the cannon. Swordsman and Gunman styles are available here.
Related map marker: Training - Unyuan (Gunman) @ Kyo Interactive Map
Visit East Umekojicho in the southern part of the Rakugai district - you can do so from Chapter 3 onwards.
Ryoma can run into a group of ronin here, encountering the Mysterious Stranger during the meeting - it's William Bradley. He'll invite you back to his place.
Master William Bradley specializes in the Gunman style. During his shooting lessons you'll also face additional challenges (such as shooting X enemies under a time limit) and progress the Urayama Company storyline - they're Bradley's enemies.
Scarecrow Chateau (Rakugai)
Related map marker: Training - Scarecrow Chateau @ Kyo Interactive Map
Visit the south-eastern part of the Rakugai district - you can do so from Chapter 3 onwards.
The master is Professor Juubei, running a remodeled manor.
He offers combat challenges to test your skills with. Only the Basic category is available at first, as you need to complete challenges to unlock more of them. Completing each challenge the first time grants a unique reward, listed along the challenge's requirements.
Ginryu Dojo (Rakunai)
Related map marker: Training - Ginryu Dojo (Wild Dancer) @ Kyo Interactive Map
Visit Karasuma Street in the western part of the Rakunai district - you can do so from Chapter 3 onwards.
After Ryoma encounters some ronin he'll also meet master Ginryu, who'll invite him to his dojo.
Master Ginryu specializes in the Wild Dancer style. After completing the introductory lessons, you can ask Ginryu for the next lesson's requirements - he wants you to bring a specific weapon to the dojo. The first weapon you must obtain is a Fine-grade Sword.
You don't lose the weapons brought to him - you just need to show Ginryu you have them.
