LEGO Skywalker Saga: Combat - weapons and tips LEGO Skywalker Saga guide, walkthorugh

This page of the guide to LEGO Star Wars Skywalker Saga contains information about combat. We have described the combat mechanics and the weapons that will be in your hands in the game.

Last update: 08 April 2022

On this page of the LEGO Star Wars The Skywalker Saga guide, you will find combat tips. We've prepared separate tips regarding melee combat, ranged combat, using the Force during battles, as well as using machines and spaceships.

Melee combat and combos

There are two main kinds of melee combat in the game - with your fists or melee weapons - LEGO Skywalker Saga: Combat - weapons and tips - Basics - LEGO Skywalker Saga Guide

There are two main kinds of melee combat in the game - with your fists or melee weapons. The latter include staffs, bludgeons and lightsabers.

During melee combat you have access to regular attacks, strong attacks and jump attacks. You should try to chain them together into combinations. This will let you break through the enemy's guard more easily as well as raise your combo meter and the stud multiplier, which will award you with more money after the encounter.

You must remember to avoid your enemies' strong attacks - LEGO Skywalker Saga: Combat - weapons and tips - Basics - LEGO Skywalker Saga Guide

You must remember to avoid your enemies' strong attacks. These are mainly used by bosses, but some regular enemies also have access to them. Fortunately, they are heavily telegraphed with red lines (charge attacks, for example) and circles (ground pounds, for example). This lets you avoid them by jumping back or to the side.

You can also counter some attacks. The attacks you can counter are telegraphed with a red exclamation mark appearing above the enemy. You must quickly press the counter button to avoid damage and immediately strike back.

Ranged combat

Fighting enemies from a distance is usually safer than engaging them in melee - LEGO Skywalker Saga: Combat - weapons and tips - Basics - LEGO Skywalker Saga Guide

Fighting enemies from a distance is usually safer than engaging them in melee. The exceptions to this rule may be encounters in small areas or areas with no cover.

Different characters have different ranged weapons, although most of them are equipped with a blaster. Fire as much as you can, you have unlimited ammo. The more you shoot, the bigger the chance you'll hit an enemy. You can also try and aim for their heads.

One of the best ranged attacks available is a lightsaber throw, though only saber-wielding characters have access to it - LEGO Skywalker Saga: Combat - weapons and tips - Basics - LEGO Skywalker Saga Guide

One of the best ranged attacks available is a lightsaber throw, though only saber-wielding characters have access to it. This move lets you attack the enemies from a safe range, without risking damage.

Throwing your saber may be especially effective when facing bosses, due to their arsenal of strong moves. They're usually easier to avoid if you're far away from the boss.

Using the Force in combat

Force is not only useful during puzzles, but can also come in handy during combat - LEGO Skywalker Saga: Combat - weapons and tips - Basics - LEGO Skywalker Saga Guide

Force is not only useful during puzzles, but can also come in handy during combat. Obviously, only Force-wielders can use it, both light side users and dark side users. Your main options when using the force are:

  1. Using the lightsaber for melee combat or ranged combat (throwing it at enemies).
  2. Attacking the enemies with the Force - you can push them back or grasp them.
  3. Picking up items in the area and throwing them at enemies.
  4. Grabbing projectiles flying towards you. This only works against larger projectiles, such as missiles (example pictured above). You can then throw the intercepted projectiles back at the enemies.
  5. Using mind tricks to mind control some enemies, confuse them or make them panic. We've discussed this topic in more detail on a separate page Mind control - how does it work?.

Changing characters during combat

During most encounters you can fluently switch between the characters, which can come in handy during various situations - LEGO Skywalker Saga: Combat - weapons and tips - Basics - LEGO Skywalker Saga Guide

During most encounters you can fluently switch between the characters, which can come in handy during various situations:

  1. If your first party member took serious damage you can switch to the second one to get the enemies' attention.
  2. If the enemy's blocking the first character's attacks, you can switch to the second character and flank them.
  3. If you need a character with specific skills, you can choose one from the list of unlocked characters. Unfortunately, this can only be done in free play mode. During story mode your team members are pre-determined.

Machine and spaceship combat

During some encounters you'll have access to vehicles and machines - LEGO Skywalker Saga: Combat - weapons and tips - Basics - LEGO Skywalker Saga Guide

During some encounters you'll have access to vehicles and machines. In case of ground battles, these can be stationary turrets (some of them must be constructed or repaired first) and various walkers. Depending on the machine, you may shoot the enemies from a distance or stomp on them if they come too close. The machines aren't indestructible, so try to stay mobile while shooting.

In some levels you'll also be able to mount an animal and use it in combat. You should do so whenever you can, as it increases your chances of survival.

Space combat is completely different, as you'll be using various spaceships and fighters such as the Millenium Falcon or X-Wings - LEGO Skywalker Saga: Combat - weapons and tips - Basics - LEGO Skywalker Saga Guide

Space combat is completely different, as you'll be using various spaceships and fighters such as the Millenium Falcon or X-Wings. Your default weapons during these encounters are laser guns. Pay attention to the crosshair while firing, as it usually doesn't remain on the enemy ship. The crosshair shows where you must shoot to hit the enemy, and will usually be slightly in front of them.

Missiles and photon torpedoes can come in handy when you're destroying ships and structures, though usually you have to obtain them yourself (for example, by destroying enemy ships which hold them) and they come with limited ammo. They also need to lock on first to guarantee a hit, but they deal more damage and can destroy structures which nothing else can destroy.

During space combat you must pay attention to lock-on warnings. Ignoring them may get you shot down by a powerful projectile. Fortunately, you have access to barrel rolls which you can use to break the lock-on and avoid the enemy ships.

Combat upgrades

As you progress through the game, you can try to become stronger in combat by unlocking new skills - LEGO Skywalker Saga: Combat - weapons and tips - Basics - LEGO Skywalker Saga Guide

As you progress through the game, you can try to become stronger in combat by unlocking new skills. We recommend unlocking all the main upgrades from the basic skill tree, as they can apply to all your unlocked characters and ships. The most important upgrades are:

  1. Melee Attack Power - You deal more damage with fists, melee weapons and lightsabers.
  2. Ranged Weapon Power - You deal more damage with blasters and other ranged weapons.
  3. Extra Health - You increase the health of your playable characters, letting them die less often.
  4. Ship Enhancements - You deal more damage with all piloted spaceships.
