Hogwarts Legacy: Houses Hogwarts Legacy guide

At Hogwarts Legacy, you can join one of four Houses: Gryffindor, Slytherin, Ravenclaw, and Hufflepuff. On this page of the guide we have described the house differences and the assignment ceremony. See if your choice will make a difference.

On this page of our Hogwarts Legacy guide we describe all the houses you can join during the game. You'll learn what the sorting ceremony looks like, what are the houses' distinguishing characteristics and differences.

How to choose a house?

After starting the game and making your way to Hogwarts, the Sorting Hat will choose one of the four houses for you: Gryffindor, Slytherin, Ravenclaw or Hufflepuff - Hogwarts Legacy: Houses - Basics - Hogwarts Legacy Guide

After starting the game and making your way to Hogwarts, the Sorting Hat will choose one of the four houses for you: Gryffindor, Slytherin, Ravenclaw or Hufflepuff. When answering the Sorting Hat's questions, remember each house has a trait attributed to it: Gryffindor has bravery, Ravenclaw has curiosity, Hufflepuff has loyalty and Slytherin has ambition. If you disagree with the Sorting Hat's suggestion, you can also choose on your own.

Creating an account in the Harry Potter Fan Club lets you take part in the Sorting Hat's specially prepared quiz. Remember to link your Harry Potter Fan Club account to your WB Games account to transfer the quiz results to Hogwarts Legacy.

Gryffindor

Gryffindor was founded by Godric Gryffindor - a famous wizard known for his courage and great deeds. Its symbol is a lion, and its colors and red and gold. Its students are known for their courage, chivalry and willingness to heroic, righteous deeds no matter the cost. Gryffindor's common room is located in Gryffindor Tower (The South Wing of Hogwarts).

Joining Gryffindor lets you meet charaters such as Garreth Weasley, Nellie Oggspire or Natasi Onai. It's also worth noting many characters known from the books or movies belonged to Gryffindor, such as Albus Dumbledore, Rubeus Hagrid and Harry Potter himself.

Slytherin

Slytherin was founded by Salazar Slytherin, always driven by his ambition to achieve his goals. Its symbol is a snake, and its colors are green and silver. Its students are greatly ambitious, but also cunning and willing to pursue their goals regardless the consequences to others. Slytherin's common room is located in the dungeon under a large lake.

Joining Slytherin lets you meet characters such as Ominis Gaunt, Imelda Reyes or Sebastian Sallow. Characters known from the books or movies who belonged to Slytherin include Lord Voldemort and Severus Snape.

Ravenclaw

Ravenclaw was founded by Rowena Ravenclaw, one of the wisest witches of her times. Its students are considered extremely intelligent and are known for their love of knowledge and learning. Its symbol is an eagle, and its colors are blue and bronze. Ravenclaw's common room is located in the Founders' Tower, having a high ceiling and lots of windows.

Joining Ravenclaw lets you meet characters such as Duncan Everett Clopton, Samantha Dare and Amit Thakkar. Characters known from the books or movies who belonged to Ravenclaw include Luna Lovegood, Filius Flitwick and Quirinus Quirrell.

Hufflepuff

Its symbol is a badger, and its colors are yellow and black. Hufflepuff's common room is located near the kitchen, by the Great Hall.

Joining Hufflepuff lets you meet characters such as Adelaide Oakes, Lenora Evergleigh and Poppy Sweeting. Characters known from the books or movies who belonged to Hufflepuff include Cedric Diggory, Newton Scamander and Pomona Sprout.

House Differences

Below we've listed all the differences between the houses in Hogwarts Legacy:

  1. Common room: each house's common room is differently furnished and located in different areas. Gryffindor and Ravenclaw's rooms are located in the Founders' Towers. Hufflepuff's room is located near the kitchen, while Slytherin's down in the dungeons.
  2. Emblems, colors: it's easy to identify which house a student comes from due to some distinguishing characteristics, like emblems and outfit colors.
  3. NPCs: during the game you'll encounter many NPCs belonging to different houses, with whom you can converse or participate in additional story quests. It should be noted, however, that your house doesn't completely block access to certain NPCs.
  4. Dialogue: during conversations, some dialogue will change depending on your house.
  5. Story quests: at a certain point of the main story you may be asked to complete a specific quest, which changes depending on your house.
