A New Life
On this page of our Heavy Rain Game Guide, we explain the requirements of unlocking A New Life epilogue. This is one of the most positive endings of Ethan's character.
This epilogue assumes that Ethan starts a new life with Shaun and Madison. Requirements for getting this ending:
Ethan wasn't caught in by police in the Fugitive chapter or was freed from the arrest in [Jayden's Blues].
Ethan escaped from police in the On the Loose chapter.
Ethan slept with Madison and forgave her [On the Loose].
Shaun was rescued in in the Old Warehouse scene. There are several ways to get to the Shaun rescue scene:
- Madison OR Ethan came to the crime scene and win the fight;
- Norman comes to the crime scene;
- At least two heroes come to the crime scene.
Ethan has to survive the [Old Warehouse] scene. Madison has to survive the [The Doc], [Killer's Place] and [Old Warehouse] scenes.
A New Start

This epilogue assumes that Ethan starts a new life with Shaun, but Madison doesn't join them. Requirements for getting this ending:
Ethan wasn't caught in [Fugitive] by police in the Fugitive chapter or was freed from the arrest in [Jayden's Blues].
Ethan escaped from police in the [On the Loose] chapter.
Ethan DIDN'T slept with Madison and forgave her in the [On the Loose]. Alternatively, Madison could have died in the middle of a game.
Shaun was rescued in [Old Warehouse] in the Old Warehouse scene. There are several ways to get to the Shaun rescue scene:
- Madison OR Ethan came to the crime scene and win the fight;
- Norman comes to the crime scene;
- At least two heroes come to the crime scene.
Ethan has to survive the [Old Warehouse] scene.
Innocent

This epilogue assumes that Ethan, who is being held in custody, is cleared of the charges and may meet his son. Grace also shows up at the police station and the whole family gives themselves another chance to be together. Requirements for getting this ending:
Ethan was caught in [Fugitive] scene and wasn't freed in [Jayden's Blues] scene.
Ethan got caught by police during the On the Loose scene.
Shaun was rescued in the Old Warehouse scene. There are several ways to get to the Shaun rescue scene:
- Madison came to the crime scene and win the fight;
- Norman comes to the crime scene;
- Two heroes came to the crime scene.
Like Tears in the Rain
On this page of our Heavy Rain Game Guide, we explain the requirements of unlocking Like Tears in the Rain epilogue. This is one of the most negative endings of Ethan's character.
This epilogue assumes that Ethan sinks into despair as he visits his son's grave with Madison. Requirements for getting this ending:
Ethan wasn't caught by police in the Fugitive scene or was freed from the custody by [Jayden's Blues].
Ethan escaped in from the police in the On the Loose scene.
Ethan slept with Madison and forgave her in the On the Loose scene.
Shaun wasn't rescued in the Old Warehouse scene, because none of the heroes showed up in this location. This can happen when the following conditions are met:
- Ethan has successfully completed less than five attempts and hasn't found the magazine (in case of 3-4 attempts you can deliberately choose the wrong location);
- Madison didn't hack into the computer in the Killer's Place scene and didn't find the magazine;
- Norman must have failed to find the magazine on the basis of the traces. Alternatively, he could have died.
Ethan must be on the loose at the end of the game. Madison has to survive in the following scenes: [The Doc], [Killer's Place] and [Old Warehouse].
Origami blues
On this page of our Heavy Rain Game Guide, we explain the requirements of unlocking Origami Blues epilogue. This is one of the most negative endings of Ethan's character.
This epilogue assumes that Ethan sinks in despair after his son's death and commits suicide in a motel.. Requirements for getting this ending:
Ethan wasn't caught by police in the Fugitive scene [Fugitive] or was freed from the custody by [Jayden's Blues].
Ethan escaped from the police in the On the Loose scene.
Ethan DIDN'T slept with Madison or has not forgiven her during [On the Loose]. Alternatively, Madison could have died in the following chapters: [The Doc], [Killer's Place] or [Old Warehouse].
Shaun wasn't rescued in the Old Warehouse scene. It could have happened if:
- Madison reached the place and lost the fight;
- Ethan didn't know the location of the warehouse due to challenges, Madison died or didn't find the address on the killer's computer, Norman died or didn't find the warehouse based on the tracks.
Ethan must still live after completing all the stages (before the motel's epilogue scene gets launched).
Helpless
On this page of our Heavy Rain Game Guide, we explain the requirements of unlocking Helpless epilogue. This is one of the most negative endings of Ethan's character.
This epilogue assumes that Ethan learns of Shaun's death in prison and decides to hang himself in his cell. Requirements for getting this ending:
Ethan was caught in [Fugitive] scene and wasn't freed in by Norman in the Blues Jaydena scene.
Ethan got caught by the police during On the Loose scene.
Shaun wasn't rescued in [Old Warehouse]. It could have come to this if:
- Madison reached the place and lost the battle;
- None of the characters arrived at the scene of the crime (Ethan did not know the location of the warehouse due to killer's challenges, Madison died or hasn't found the address on the killer's computer, Norman died or hasn't found the warehouse based on traces).
Ethan, due to his imprisonment, will not appear in the Old Warehouse scene, but only in the epilogue.
Ethan's Grave
On this page of our Heavy Rain Game Guide, we explain the requirements for unlocking the Ethan's Grave epilogue. This is by far the worst ending for this character, as it assumes that Ethan did not survive (although Shaun will be rescued on the other hand).
This epilogue assumes that Ethan died in the fight for his son in the final chapter of the game. The game shows Shaun and Grace standing at his grave. Requirements for getting this ending:
Ethan was the only one who reached the crime scene and lost the battle with Origami Killer during the Old Warehouse chapter.
Alternatively, Madison and Norman may also appear in the scene of the Old Warehouse, but Ethan cannot be warned by Madison about the arrival of the police.
Shaun was saved.
Possible options are:
- Ethan, Madison and Scott are dead;
- Ethan died but Madison is alive;
- Ethan died but Scott is alive.
